Minnesota @ Denver 2/12/10

Re: Minnesota @ Denver 2/12/10

Nice win for DU. But as the ladies used to say in Tokyo: "Honto, no BS" MN doesn't look that bad to me. Yeah, they're not scoring. But they carried the action in the first two periods. And if they've played this well all season, I can't understand the record.

Agreed, Minny looked good

Chevy on post-game, "I might have a horseshoe in my equipment" :D

No, that's pretty much the way it has gone all year. They played a little better defensively the first two periods, but that's about the only difference from any other game this year.

Well, we've been doing a bit better lately on Saturday night and I'm guessing tomorrow, we're gonna have to buckle our chinstraps.

I don't get it. Is it behind the bench? One of those self fulfilling funk things that just keeps recurring, or what? I mean, they certainly played well enough in the first two to get one or two, even with Chevy.

In some series this year (tUMD, DU tonight, WI) they fight and fight until one thing goes wrong, and then they seem to think, "Here we go again" and fail massively from that point on.

I got that same sense but only seeing 'em in three games. Confidence/Self-Confidence is so fragile, particularly for kids of this age, and especially when the talent is spread so evenly. Somebody on that team's gotta kick some butt and lead them over the speed bumps.

I've luckily gotten the chance to see a few DU games this year (UND, UAA) and they played very well tonight. They are a team that I could see in the F4, especially if your D plays half as well as they did tonight.

Got some bon temps(or maybe its Baileys) here tonight :D

In my case, Crown Royal. It's always Mardi Gras when there's Crown Royal around.

This just in from our sponsor: The idiot who heads the Vancouver organizing committee in his remarks that have gone on for what seems like a day or two just referred to "micro cultures." I may puke.

A goalie who's playing well and a couple of very talented seniors who always seem to come up with the big play when they need it. The Gohpers get back into tonight's game with a late goal, and Rock just snuffs out the flame.

Yup. Unreal.

Gwoz went with 7 D and only 11 forwards. One reason is that Jesse Martin, the 2nd line center is out. The other is that he can rotate the 7 guys on D and keep them fresher. He then doubles shifts one of the other forwards in a rotation when he wants the 4th line out there. William Wrenn may be back on D tomorrow night and he will probably sit one of the boys who played tonight on D. Jesse Martin will not play this weekend at all.

I would expect the Gophers to come out on fire tomorrow night. DU has been pretty successful at weathering an opponent's storm in the first period after being the winner on Friday. The boys are playing well and I think we have come to realize that DU is a 3 goal a game team with Chevy giving up 2 or less a game.

Re: Minnesota @ Denver 2/12/10

And this is so not the first time he's done that this year. And Ruegs is right there too. If they get to the FF, I think Rock will be a legitimate contender for the Hobey.

I think it is between Rock and Chevy right now but goalies don't win it that often.

I'm concerned about them canceling each other out. But look at tonight's game, Chevy was unbeatable for what, 55 or 56 minutes. The Gophers get back into it with a late score. But then Rock strangles 'em in the crib with a highlight reel goal. Tough to pick between those two, let me tell ya.
