Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

Re: Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

And the good news(or bad news depending how it plays out) is that we will find out right off the bat once the break is over. I'm assuming BC will be the type of team that will make you pay for sleepwalking. And I'm not looking past Air Force either. Important non-conference games!!

From what I was told by my CO friends....AFA is absolutely terrible this year. I guess next year's recruits are supposed to be really good, though. It's just an "off" year for the program, for whatever reason.

If your friends are at all accurate in their assessment of AFA, what a huge difference in opponents the Gophers will need to adjust to from one night to the next! I just hope they don't look past Air Force, because there's little doubt they've had that game with BC circled on the calendar since the beginning of the year. In fact I wonder if a loss to Air Force would hurt them more in the Pairwise than a win over BC would help them.

This. If they learn from this, then this frustrating collapse can have a positive effect on the second half.

Hope so. But either way it's a decent position to have a #4 ranked team in second place in a tough conference and still not be happy. I hope we all aren't turning into Reusee type people now. Yikes.

Oh, I agree. We've yet to play our best hockey. And I can't stand Reusse, so track me down and shoot me if I ever do :D

Man, if any Gopher is sleepwalking for that game, after the way BC ended their season last year, I'll be going ape****.

Air Force on the other hand....I could see some sleepwalking for that one. And despite Air Force being down, they are going to bring a strong work ethic, guaranteed. So if MN really doesn't show up for that game, they most certainly could find themselves losing.

MN can play down to any opponent.

And as for BC game, while we are likely without Skjei and Reilly, they won't have Gaudreau. Would liked to have Bjugs go against him to maybe motivate him. Not that it won't be fun anyway.

Speaking of Skjei, how much did he play in the second half of the game, or even the last two periods? I remember him making a real bad play early on, when he skated it right in front of Wilcox and it almost went in. After that I don't remember his name being mentioned much, if at all.

If Skjei even makes the final roster, I have no doubt Reilly will, that kid can flat out play and the hands and vision he has are outstanding. Skjei has struggled big time imo, though he may turn out to be a great D with time.

The nice thing about Reilly and or Skjei being gone (temporary of course) is we can go back to our D pairings from last year when we had solid D play and quit with the D playing forward experiment.

Can anyone who knows anything please comment on this?

I don't know much, but I do know that Skjei did not play much (if any) of the 2nd and none of the 3rd Saturday.

That was my sense as well, but I didn't realize it until late in the game that he seemed to be MIA. I haven't heard that he suffered any kind of injury, so I have to assume he got benched after his bad miscue.

But it has been a constant theme this year, taking portions of the game off and letting your opponent back into the game. They have been really lucky so far that it has not really bitten them in the *** yet. Denver, North Dakota and bc - if they smell blood in the water they will stand on our throats and lop it off with their skate blade.
Doesn't this happen with every team? We are talking about college athletes who, shocking I know, don't play 100% on every single shift.

Correct, it does happen with most teams during the course of a game.

My guess is Gopherbigguy only watches the Gophers and hasn't watched any other teams play, if he were to watch other teams play he would see this is pretty normal. (yes even for BC, Denver and NoDak)

It happens with every team, get a big lead and coast. Sometimes it does come to bite you, sometimes it doesn't.

Or he assumes that pro teams do it and every other team should as well. I'm starting to care less about when teams don't give 60 minutes because, well, its going to happen.

And it also underscores the value of some guys, usually grinders, who rarely take a shift off. They serve as a reminder that you can always hustle, and they have a value that goes beyond stats. That's a cliche' statement, I know, but it's still underappreciated sometimes.

Re: Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard".

That, and hard workers can go a long way to inspire talent on your own team to work hard. Never-stop Grinders are not valuable only for what they do on the ice. They bring character that rubs off on the guys who just never had to bust their arses every minute to get on the ice.

Indeed. Well said.
