Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

Re: Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

Also their record on Saturdays is 7-1-1 tying UAA and losing to Kato. I was at the Kato game...tough to watch at the end. Still not a bad record.

Do CC fans exist?

Are they all busy eating doritos, twinkies and playing Tecmo bowl on the NES?

As a former college athlete, it will be interesting to see what happens when they legalize marijuana in Colorado in regards to NCAA rules. I know it's a banned substance and if you get tested can lead to suspension. Obviously I'm sure most players wouldn't partake, but we all know how some hockey players like to have a good time.

By the way, has anyone been to CC or know what their rink is like and what kind of attendance it has?

Anyone that wants pot can get it now - I don't see why CC hockey players would suddenly feel compelled to light up once this starts up.

This sumbitch almost got to page 2 - guess UM fans will be solely responsible for it. :D

Re: Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

They really need secondary scoring guys to step up, last year Jake Hansen scored 16g and had 22A, so far no one has stepped up to fill that void. The big guys are getting theirs (Rau Bjugs Haula) but the next level really needs to step up and start scoring imo. If they can get Budish Condon Warning Boyd etc... to start chipping in then this team will obviously look much better. Goaltending and defensively they are pretty solid (although I hate the D at forward experiment), they need to get too 4 goals regularly to start sweeping.

I disagree. Of Bjugstad, Rau, Haula, Condon, Schmidt and Budish, only Haula is getting more points per game than last year. And only Schmidt (so few goals hard to say much) is getting more goals per game. They are all a year older and more experienced and should be filling some of the void of Hanson being gone (almost sounded like you were calling him a secondary scorer) with increased production, along with increases from others. Isackson and Ambrose have improved a lot in point totals, but there should be more multi-point games out of Rau and Bjugstad than there has been.

Twinkies? Where they gonna get those for less than a thousand bucks?

Re: Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

I know it's all speculation, but what do you guys think the key is for the Gophers to start sweeping some opponents? I agree that the energy level doesn't seem to be there for the whole game, but who needs to step up. You can't expect Wilcox to steal every game. Is the loss of last year's captain really that big of a blow that it effects even our scoring?

And on another note, has anyone else kind of been disappointed with Bjugstad's lack of production? He's a big player on the ice, but I guess maybe I was expecting something more when he decided to come back this summer. He has a ton of potential, but he just seems off from last year.

It is not a matter of a couple players stepping up. If the team all plays with energy, like period one last Saturday, for entire weekends, they'll get some sweeps.

Bjugstad is still dominant, but not reaches huge expectations by many (or even point production of last year). I mentioned before, it seems like there are a couple times a game he carries the puck into the zone and peals back to look for a trailer to pass to, when he had a shot at making it to the net. Not a complete opening, but the type of situation where someone with his talent is going to beat the person often enough that he would create some great chances if he just kept going. In the same situation, I think Haula would try it more than Bjugstad has been. It is hard to complain though since he is such a solid player.

Sorry about the binge posting, but have to make up for lack of CC posts.

Can someone tell me start time on Sat? I have to record the game (both nights!). Kids' activities sure can mess up hockey viewing. Think twice about having kids, young Gopher fans.

I guess I was saying that at this point in the season (15 games played) the "big guys" were still getting their pts, at almost a pt a game (Haula)19, (Rau)14 (Bjugs)13 and (Schmidt) 12. Yes they are a little off from last year but not much, the bigger issue imo is the consistent scoring after that bunch. (secondary scoring)

The Colorado Springs World Arena holds about 7000. Sold out for DU games. CC only has about 2000 students so there are a lot of "townies" one of whom is Ron Mexico, a DU troller. CC does have its own message board. Can't remember the name, but it is in the latest DU-CC thread.

Can't imagine why CC fans don't want to communicate with rodent lovers:rolleyes:;):D

BTW, cc sucks!

Warning, Marshall, Boyd, Isackson, Serratore and Ambroz (secondary scorers) are all scoring at a higher pace than last year. As I stated earlier, of the top scorers, all are scoring at a slower pace than last year but Haula, against a week schedule. I would argue that your top scorers should be able to increase their scoring pace against lesser opponents with a year more experience. And a 20 % increase in scoring from a 15-25 goal scorer adds more than the same increase from a couple 5 goal scorers. Rau and Bjugstad averaged over a point a game last year with Schmidt just about there, so sure, they aren't a lot of points off last year's pace. But I still say they should do better than they are, and that should open things up a little more for the other players.

Re: Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

World arena attendance is usually around 7000. May be a bit more with Minnesota. CC has had some struggles of late but aren't necessarily playing poorly. Nodak smothered CC in the defensive zone and it ultimately lead to a game tying goal with 13 seconds left (Nodak scored the GWG less than a minute into overtime). CC has a hard time winning faceoffs. I believe the CC radio guy said Nodak won 75% last weekend. Goaltending was an issue but both Howe and Thorimbert have played well the last two weeks. Defense is a huge issue but CC can score and score in bunches. Seems like most games they win are shootouts. Don't know much about Minnesota?

Re: Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

From what I hear, CC jacked the tix prices for MN. No surprise.

Re: Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

Was at World Arena last Saturday to see Yale sneak out with an OT victory. Nice building, full bars, and expect at least 7000 for Gophers. A couple of Minnesota high school studs in CC lineup including goalie Joe Howe (Wayzata), Archie Skalbeck (Hopkins), Charlie Taft (Edina) and Michael Morin (Breck). Should be a good series.

Yes twinkies...you underestimate potheads, they would have had a large stash put away for these kinds of activities. (Tecmo on the NES marathons)

Re: Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

Alright so what's the best possible situation for the Gophers WCHA standing-wise? Obviously a sweep of CC would be a nice boost of 4 points putting them at 16. Saint Cloud and UNO split, UAA sweeps Mankato, WI and Mich. Tech split, UMD and Bemidji split and then what...hope for a UND sweep of Denver? Not sure I could ever cheer for a UND win especially because they haven't played an equal amount of games yet.

If all that happened, the standings would look like this:

1. Minnesota 16
2. Denver 15
3. St. Cloud 14
4. NoDak 14
5. UNO 13
6. CC 10
7. Mankato 10
8. UMD 9
9. UAA 9
10. Mich Tech 9
11. WI 9
12. Bemidji 8

UAA will not sweep at Kato, I could see splits for some of the others though.

Re: Minnesota @ Colorado College 12/7 & 12/8: The potheads vs the *******

Will there be a trophy for the team that is leading the WCHA at the half way point?
