Minneapolis/St Paul natives tour guide thread?

Re: Minneapolis/St Paul natives tour guide thread?

We are arriving around noon at MSP on Wednesday and will looking for a place for lunch, any suggestions? We have a rental.

If you are flying in a place called the 518 is close by and home of the Jucy Lucy burger or a block up Cedar Avenue from there is a place called Fat Lorenzos for awesome Italian food. You cant go wrong with either of those.

Home of the Jucy Lucy is Matt's Bar...just sayin'

Re: Minneapolis/St Paul natives tour guide thread?

There is a fight over who did it first. The 5-8, or Matt's. All you need to know is that neither have the best one. :)

Re: Minneapolis/St Paul natives tour guide thread?

Man vs. Food named the 5-8 and Matt's as the home of the jucy lucy. They looked delicious on the show, but i went to a 5-8 bar in Maple Wood or Maple something and it was horrible. Nothing like the ones they showed on t.v. in Minneapolis.

Sigh. Sioux fans. ;)

And the followup declared Matt's as the tastier Jucy Lucy.

It appears the places in Minneapolis let you choose from a variety of toppings. All I got was a choice of 3 different cheeses.

Depends on where you go. IIRC, Matt's gives you one choice. 5-8 has multiple choices (and these are the ONLY two places that claim the birth of the Ju(i)cy Lucy). The others have choices, and do not claim to be the originators.

Obviously I'm going to give the 5-8 in Minneapolis a try next time i'm down there.

Re: Minneapolis/St Paul natives tour guide thread?

Quite a few other bars have them as well. They let Matt's and the 5-8 argue who had it first, while they just make them better. :)

Re: Minneapolis/St Paul natives tour guide thread?

Good Lord!!!!! I guess I'll have to try many and judge for myself.

As mentioned in the link in my sig, there is a deep-fried, bacon-wrapped Jucy Lucy available at Hubert's, near the Twins' stadium. Parise knows I'm trying that this year!

Not to nit-pick... well okay maybe just a little but for the record it is only a Jucy Lucy at Matt's Bar. Everywhere else that I've been includes the missing i.
:D

Re: Minneapolis/St Paul natives tour guide thread?

If you want a selection of burgers there is a hole in the wall place in Downtown Minneapolis called The Burger Place (5th/marquette) that is pretty good, and its only about $7 for burger, fries, drink.
