Mike Leone

Re: Mike Leone

The entire document essentially says that if you play in organized intercollegiate sports (NCAA, NAIA, ACHA, etc); you use a year of eligibility. It does provide numerous exceptions, but only for extenuating circumstances, which based upon his playing career, when he played, he fully participated without qualifying events.

could someone remind me why we care about this guy??????? so much....:)

Re: Mike Leone

Leone was not on Adrian's roster last season. He played the 1st half of the 08-09 season at Utica, and the 2nd half at Adrian. He spent last year at Lindenwood (I think).

Our "bigger" guys are #14 Workman, #25 Towns, and I guess you could consider #15 Kuzyk as big, I suppose. But there was no #13 on our roster last year.

Hammer:

Thank you for the clarification. I believe that the collective Red line group at the SNC games all agreed that #14 was very impressive.

Re: Mike Leone

It is true that he doesn't have to sit out a year (DI rule to help prevent DIII poaching), but I still believe he has only 2 years of eligibility left.

Basic information you need to know about transferring to an NCAA college

I would agree.

I was also under the impression that there was some sort of "eligibility clock" that starts ticking once you start playing (barring injury?), which for this guy would have been first semester '08 at Utica. I think it's four years of eligibility once you start playing, but I could be wrong...

Close, it is 4 years within the first 5 years -

Five-year clock - In Division I, the first time you enroll in any two-year or four-year school as a full-time student, you start your five-year period of eligibility. You have five-calendar years from initial collegiate enrollment to play four seasons of competition — even if you are not enrolled in school at all or attend school part-time within that time frame.

"Sort of" the same for Division II & III -

10-semester/15-quarter clock - In Division II and III, you have 10-semesters or 15-quarters in which to complete all your seasons of competition. You use one of your 10-semesters or 15-quarters every semester or quarter you attended a two-year or four-year college and are enrolled fulltime or are enrolled part-time and compete. Unlike Division I, in Division II or III, you are not charged during a term that you are not enrolled in school or attend school part-time.

Re: Mike Leone

Something to do with what? Something to do with leaving Adrian? Was that the same reason he left Utica after one semester, and only spent one season at Lindenwood? What are we going to say if he's a short-timer at WMU? I hope that's not the case, but his history is what it is.

Leone was very productive at Adrian. He was the #2 center, even among those "16 returning seniors", and may have been the #1 center last season after Krug's graduation had he stayed. He wasn't sitting behind anyone in terms of playing time.

Re: Mike Leone

Last year I saw the Lindenwood game in Adrian. Half way into the 1st Leone took a crosscheck to the back and went strait to the locker room. That is where his season stats end.

Re: Mike Leone

maybe he is try'in to find the school with the best food..............enough

Adrian would be tough to beat. I bet Leone had the made-to-order stir fry off the Mongolian grill a few times during his semester with the Bulldogs.

Or maybe some of the chicken pizza on the garlic ranch sauce.

Re: Mike Leone

Guess things weren't working out at Western the way Mike had hoped. He left school last week and has enrolled at Robert Morris. Coach Schooley and the rest of the Colonials are very excited to see how Mike can contribute.

Re: Mike Leone

Mike wasn't psyched on the food services at R.M. and was assigned a real jerk-off roommate who hid all his boxer briefs. He left Robert Morris yesterday and plans to return to Western Michigan tomorrow. Coach Schooley and the rest of the R.M. staff wish him the best.

When asked to comment, Western coach Blashill said he didn't even know Mike had left...

This makes me wonder if Leone was granted a medical redshirt and that is why he is coming into WMU as a sophomore and not as a junior.

Re: Mike Leone

I found this thread doing some research for a post about recruits in my blog. The reason I was researching Leone is because he will be playing D1 hockey for Western Michigan this season.

Interesting. Last year's Lindenwood Roster (which, incidentally, does not include Leone) had a transfer from Western Michigan's ACHA D1 team, and now Leone himself is going to play at WMU...

I also love the fact that WMU lists his previous team as St. Louis (NAHL), when clearly he hasn't played there since 07-08.

There is potential for that to be the case.

Well, i'm sure it's not the case, but for discussion's sake, let's say he was held to DIII rules regarding medical redshirts (with which we've all become very familiar given the James Lacour situation :p ). That means the injury would've had to have occurred in the first third of the season. 12 games (the Adrian game, his final, was the 12th game he played according to ACHA) is most certainly less than 1/3 of the 40 regular season game Lindenwood had scheduled last year ;)
