Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

Of course I'm not lumping ALL Michigan fans with a couple of idiots actions. I did meet some really nice Michigan fans who had said regardless of the outcome of the game he was going to root for either team that won. Now that's different from what a lot of the other fans around me said. You guys beat us just two weeks ago, obviously no one was expecting us to come in there and roll over and take it.

A lot of the Michigan fans are continuously bitter about the no-goal, like it was the refs fault. He did what he was supposed to do. When he doesn't see the puck he's going to assume the puck is dead and blow his whistle. He was just standing in the wrong place to see the puck clearly.

But I think everyone was hating on the refs last night. I know every face-off just ****ed me off.

But thanks for the support, and I sure hope we can beat BC in Detroit!

The only thing that really bothered me about the whistle is that there's no way he could have seen the puck under Shawn Hunwick's glove but he let that one go. It's the inconsistency that really got under my skin.

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

I was sitting a section over from him... I figured he must've had too many beers in between games.

I have a feeling I know exactly who this is all about, and he was so drunk he doesn't remember most of the things he did during the UM/BSU game... But it was pretty funny to watch him switch sides to stay behind Hunwick the entire game and egg on the UM fans (and almost get into a couple fights). :p

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

I enjoyed breakfast at the hotel yesterday morning. Talked to a few Huntsville fans, including some of their band memebers. Talked to a few Miami fans (who helped remind me that they're not all bad). It was great talking hockey and different road trips/arenas with other fans.

Great games. Disappointing officiating (but that's part of the game). I enjoyed my trip to Fort Wayne and was proud of the way Michigan played. Overtime playoff hockey is thrilling. I like it more when it's not my team. I felt like I was going to hurl.

Also, I realize that Miami and Michigan fans were both fortunate to have a regional that was easy to drive to, but that 8 pm Sunday game is brutal (and made worse by overtime). I wish the tickets had cost less and the game had started earlier, I wonder how many more fans we could have gotten.

Most of you should probably stop reading my post now. But I like venting so I'm going to continue typing.

That was awesome when that guy was doing the wooo woo wooo thing against Michigan when they were on the powerplay. The wolverine fans over there were ****ed

Once again it proves my point that a Redhawk is incapable of an original thought. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
I hate when I agree with UMICHhockeyRULZ. :o I was more shocked than anything by that. Yes the thing we do on the penalty kill is stupid and annoying but that's the point. And yes, Michigan stole many of our cheers from Cornell...but at least they are in a different conference. Hearing the Miami fans do a bunch of "our" (stolen) cheers is annoying, and my friends and I wonder if they picked it up from our trips down there.

The only original things I will grant your fanbase are not jumping to "Jump Around" and cheering against your power play ("see you in 2 minutes").

... to the student section chanting racists when someone yelled out lets go redskins, it is what it is.

Come on, that was funny. :D I find it hilarious that your school changed the mascot and yet your fans continue to do a far more offensive "war chant" or whatever you call it when you go on the poweplay. If you disagree, feel free direct your outrage at me.

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

The regional final game was incredible. I was so disappointed on Saturday because the Miami/UAH game was slow and outright boring. You could sense the lame-ness in the entire arena. The game last night was the complete opposite. Going into the game, I honestly was not very confident that we would walk about with the win, but obviously I was pleasantly surprised.

Just a few things I want to say about it now. I was sitting in section 225, the corner looking at Connor Knapp's right side during 1, 3, and the OTs, so I had a GREAT view of both the Miami poke-from-beneath-Hunwick's-pad goal and the Michigan whistled-dead-before-he-buried-it goal.

For the Miami goal, the play should have been whistled dead, but it wasn't, and so the guys on the ice rightfully kept fighting for it. As the Miami fans around me said to each other: shouldn't have happened, but we'll take it. Michigan fans would have said the exact same thing if the situation was reversed.

For the Michigan non-goal, it was very clear that the whistle had been blown before the Michigan player got his stick on the puck to knock it in. No question. Whether the whistle should have been blown is another issue, but the play is dead regardless. I clearly recall a similar situation resulting in a no-goal for Miami during a home game.

On another note: I have many memories of terrible experiences with Michigan fans. I'm happy to say that I have no new ones to add from this weekend. While I'm sure a few bad eggs were there, I did not run into any of them. Thank you, Michigan fans, for making my dread of dealing with you completely baseless for this weekend. I apologize for any a-hole Miami fans you dealt with at the arena or have to deal with on this board, but every fanbase has their share of them. You simply have to learn to look past those bad eggs and see that most are just there to support their team, like most of you. In that vein, this weekend has certainly tempered my views about Michigan fans.

Michigan fans - you have so much to be proud of. What a way to turn a season around from infamous to inspirational. Your boys will definitely be a force to reckon with next year if they build on the chemistry they were able to finally find in the post-season. Going into OT, I had reconciled myself to the fact that (I thought) our season was a few minutes away from ending, and if the final bounce had gone the other way, I was already convincing myself to root for you the rest of the way. I'm obviously glad that won't be the case in two weeks, but I respect your team a lot right now (especially after the schooling you gave us in the CCHA semifinals...) and I wish you the best of luck next season in being the #2 team behind Miami. :)

With that said, on to Detroit. Let's Go RedHawks!!!

I think the point of that guy starting it on Saturday, and getting all the Miami people doing it right back on Sunday was because the Michigan fans would also find it, stupid and annoying. Especially knowing that it was blatantly stolen from them.

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

I wouldn't whine, because you would of scored a goal.

Boo whoo, deal with it. They reviewed it and it didn't count. If people are going to come on here and whine and cry it only adds to the pathetic showing their fans displayed in Ft. Wayne this weekend. Classless, arogant, arse's all weekend.

Im sorry, Michigan's team had a great run and played extremely well over the last 2 months but you lost. Atleast have some freaking class.....

Miami fans, you have a hell of a program to cheer for. As long as Blasi stays there they are going to keep winning and winning big. The players seem like a great group, the way they handled Burke's death was inspirational to the entire hockey world.

Maybe after a few more years of winning you'll learn how to handle it with some class. Coming on here immediately after a loss like that and ripping on the other teams fans is just the lowest of the low, even the worst Gopher and Sioux troll wouldn't do that. You weren't even provoked by anyone but UMICH, and even he was fairly classy. Yet every single Miami poster has come on and taken a shot, even the guys that have posting on here for years and years. Just pathetic.

Best of luck in Detroit, I do sincerely hope Miami wins and I think they have a great chance to do it. I look forward to more great games next year.

EDIT: Redhawkbandman, I apologize, I was composing this rant while your post came up. That was a very classy post. Best of luck in Detroit.

Do you actually read the posts before you type?! There are a number of posts on here from Miami fans saying "Congrats on a great game" and "Mich has a gripe about the early whistle" and "Be proud of a great game", etc. I'm not going to call you any names, but please be more thorough in your reading before you come on here with that garbage.

And yes, I agree: with more and more winning seasons, hopefully we will see less and less ungracious winners (for both teams).

This thread reminds me of a mosh pit at a heavy metal concert...people are jumping in and swinging their arms just trying to hit somebody and hurt them as much as they can before getting hit themselves.

Show me my post ;)

I've had nothing but good experiences with Michigan fans the last few weeks, the worst thing I had thrown at me after the game last week was "overrated", not exactly rant worthy. Although listening to "It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine" all the way to the JLA garage did make me want to punch a small animal - not U of M fans fault tho :) .

I was sitting in the upper deck with a couple friends away from most of the Miami contingent and had a very good time shooting the breeze with the Michigan fans around us just enjoying a great hockey game. Yeah the morons throwing water bottles need to grow up. I would say they were probably just drunk but that would have to have been some epic pre-gaming to keep a buzz going through that marathon of a game, but who cares it was 4 or 5 angry students, we aren't always the classiest or most rational demographic.

Go Hawks, Love & Honor, Connor is free to have his way with me whenever he wants, bring on BC!!

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

A little self serving here.

How about we all agree to play in the posters game?? :D

Come on Redhawk fans! Show us what you can do!!!

There are currently 4 Michigan fans signed up, incluing me and wT.

And Zero, count 'em, 0 - Miami fans. (we have two buckeyes!!! that should be motivation)

Come on, meet some fellow posters who tend to go TO EVERY FROZEN FOUR regardless of the teams. We won't bite.

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

i would love to play in that game (and even go Corey Tropp on a couple posters) but I just cant justify driving all the way out to Ann Arbor on championship Saturday.

DISCLAIMER:This comment was made in complete recognition of the fact that the above mentioned play was goonish, completely inappropriate, and thuggish, and I would never intend to hurt anyone like that.

Uh, most posters will be doing the same. Including me. We're staying at the Book Cadillac for the weekend. And mrs alfa will probably run the Martian 10k in the morning.

Poor excuse. Especially for a Sparty. :D

I understand...but I am responsible for hosting about 8 out of towners too. Perhaps I'll check out the thread and make a decisions this afternoon. I do want to skate, I just don't want you guys to be embarrassed when I melt the ice at Yost with my blazing speed...you know, because I watch Comley's teaching techniques.

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

I'd be in, but the Virginia unemployment office doesn't count hockey road trips as "job hunting."

No we just respond to the posts made by Michigan faithful and those deserve shots. Didn't see us come on here after the NT game last year whinning and crying about lossing, we congratulated Boston let them do their thing and kept our mouths shut. Maybe if certain people on here did the same instead of whinning their wouldn't be a need to take shots. We kept our mouth shuts in the stands on saturday while we took repeated shots from michigan fans about our loss last friday. So sorry, but most Michigan fans had it coming. Not all but most.

With all that said it has nothing to do with the game. It was the type of game I expected. You knew Michigan would come out flying and fire pucks at the net. You knew Hunwick would play well, and boy did he ever, and you knew Miami would mix things up and counter punch anything Michigan had. This game was amazing, lived up to all the hype, and was probably the most intense game I have ever seen. Michigan's players, fans, and administration should be nothing but proud of the way this team played and performed down the stretch.
