Middlebury Panthers Hockey 2010- 2011

Re: Middlebury Panthers Hockey 2010- 2011

No rose (or blue) colored glasses here...frankly, I wans't impressed by the play of either team.
Well, there wasn't a lot of offensive coordination in either direction, but the defensive play was pretty good.:o
I guess that I have to take off the glasses and realize that Midd IS just a middle of the pack team in a lowly regarded NESCAC conference, and with all the turmoil in the locker room, and injuries and all they don't have the least bit of a chance on Friday:( ;)

Norwich isn't exactly lighting the world on fire jimmy. We've got our issues too.

I'm sure as almost every game is between these two, we're going to be in for another thriller.

Re: Middlebury Panthers Hockey 2010- 2011

For you Panther fans who may not be following THE GAME thread... the game on friday has been sold out. Don't expect to be able to show up and buy a standing room ticket for this one! Glad I took a seat on the bus, otherwise I'd be out front two hours early looking for someone with an extra!

Re: Middlebury Panthers Hockey 2010- 2011

Another good 3 point weekend for the Panthers! The Norwich game of course was a real thriller! I, for one anyway, thought that the outcome was a good one in that neither team really deserved to lose. The St. Mikes game was just what one would expect, a bit lack-luster in comparison (under statement), but "THE GAME" has always been a hard act to follow.
Midd continues to climb in the NESCAC Standings and is currently in a three way tie for third place. The Williams game on Tuesday is HUGE! No matter what the outcome, MIDD is going to still be tied with someone. Win it, tied for first with Bowdoin, Lose it, tied with Amherst for third, and tie it and we have a 3 way tie for second. Perhaps the most important aspect of the game though is that if they win it they will have the head to head tiebreaker over all of the leading teams!:D
Even though, MIDD has a better record away than at home this year, It's probably fortunate that the game is at the Kenyon this time around,as Williams is undefeated at home this season.

Re: Middlebury Panthers Hockey 2010- 2011

I sure wish that some MIDDLEBURY STUDENT FAN would step up and rally the troops to come to the remaining games, AND lead them in cheering. Norwich had 600 students standing around the rail before the warm-ups started on Friday! Talk about an electric atmosphere! At one time the Middlebury student body was a FORCE at the games. I can't say how much I miss that aspect of Panther Hockey. Things just haven't been the same since blue haired Michael Kirkland graduated. Leland Davis did a good job keeping the cheerleading going for his four years, but the south end of the rink has been pretty quiet for several years now. God I miss "Warm up the bus"," There's only ONE Middlebury", "Tiny Bubbles", "Safety Schooooooal", as well as most of the other cheers. LET'S GO BLUE!

The Middlebury student section was very impressive in 2003 for the NCAA quarterfinal game against Elmira. They were right up there with the Corner Crew. Might have even been better than the Corner Crew that year.

desertfoxmidd04 was one of the leaders of that pack. He wore a shirt and tie to the games.

Re: Middlebury Panthers Hockey 2010- 2011

There was very good student attendance at last night's Midd-Williams tilt. Good numbers and good volume. The game was about what you'd expect from a team that can't win on the road playing a team that can't win at home......a sloppy, frustrating, penalty-filled, exhibition of hockey. Only guys happy with this ending is Bowdoin. My Nostradamus prediction is 3+ teams tying for first in the NESCAC with records barely over .500.

I think that it was the best student attendance of the year, and they did make some noise, but still no leadership. Hope that they all show for the rest of the games.
You are right about how the game turned out, but to be honest it's not what I expected. Midd looked like they were missing some key players. Where was JD Vermette, anyway? Hoping that Trevor Pollock and Bryan Currran can return to the ice soon as well.

Re: Middlebury Panthers Hockey 2010- 2011

Just 850 fans in the building...not good for a Midd vs Williams game. We are having similar problems in our fan base

Re: Middlebury Panthers Hockey 2010- 2011

Last time Williams played at Midd in '09 on a Tuesday night, the attendance was 700. Tough to draw a local crowd on a school/work night. Students did make a good showing. JD is right, Midd needs guys like Vick and Ski of yore to take charge of the student section.

Weeknights never are as well attended as the weekends, but even still the house did seem unusually empty. It's sad how many fans are of the fair weather variety, but I guess it's human nature.

It's been nine days and I'm still talking to myself:)

BIG WEEKEND BOYS, Here we go Panthers, Here we go...:D

Re: Middlebury Panthers Hockey 2010- 2011

Where are all the Midd fans? Some were very informative, some were really quite entertaining because they were so full of themselves.

I'm not sure, but most were students, who have graduated and moved on to other interests. I don't think that the present students are even aware of this forum. There were a handful of older posters at one time, but most grew tired of being ridiculed and humiliated.

...not by me...

I am not happy with the demise of the interlock, which I suspect will lead me to pay less attention to things Middlebury in hockey. It's a shame. It's been a great run. I don't blame Midd for it, but I don't know that weeknight games are going to have the same kind of "pop" that the weekend games did in the interlock (of course, back when we were travel partners and playing on Tuesday nights, we had some good games).

I'd take all the ridicuole and humilation Midd fans took over their eight national championships for just one Elmira championship...
