Re: ***Mid-Season Posters Poll - December 29, 2009***

Dammit. Atleast one person ranked Westfield 14th or two people ranked them 15th along with me.

somehow I knew that 1 vote was going to come for RIT.

Re: ***Mid-Season Posters Poll - December 29, 2009***

I had Westfield at 14th.

The only thing I really don't agree with is Middlebury in at 11. The only thing they've done so far this year is lose to Plattsburgh. They just haven't played enough games, which results in having 0 impressive wins. Salem looked very good when they came out west, so I think they should be higher than they are in the poll. Westfield's tie against Salem was a good indicator to me for ranking them; however, that does start with where you rank Salem.

As for Midd, the posters poll does have them 3 spots lower than the USCHO Poll.

As for Salem State, the posters ranked them and the USCHO Pollsters didn't. I think both your points are expressed by the differences in the polls.

I like it - My computer rankings are in there as my vote (hopefully they have more credibility than the other set), but I see that everybody has Norwich/Plattburgh hard to separate - the 5th should be fun.

Adrian's game against Oswego should be the first real opportunity for Adrian to show where they really belong.

Really ?
Adrian are in their 3rd season, have played 68 games (63 wins) + 3 vs. the U18's (2 wins). I'm pretty sure most who have seen them play respect them and I don't think this one game will define "where they really belong".

The Hamline games are just as, if not more important.
Oswego will provide great competition and a new experience, but definitely won't be the most important game the Bulldogs play this season.

As nice as those wins over the USA 18U Team are...they don't mean anything for NCAA purposes, which at the end of the day are the way you are judged nationally etc.

Oswego is the #1 team in the nation. This game means A LOT for Adrian because the whole East will be "watching" and a good showing or a win would prove all their critics wrong that they truly do belong. It doesnt get any better for Adrian as far as chances. If they travel to the #1 team and beat them in their barn and end Oswego's 10 (could be 12) game winning streak...that will be the program's signature win.

(Im not saying they do or don't belong...I havent seen them play yet...but I am looking forward to finally seeing them on the 8th.)

Wow, the last time Adrian played a team from the East they threw double digits. And where did that team finish.

This was not intended to denigrate Adrian. I've tried to be supportive, because any addition of a quality D3 program is a good thing. The reality is that their SOS this year is very, very, very weak. This means that the value of their undefeated status is unclear. If they are "very good", they'd be undefeated, but if they are only "good" they could also be undefeated. Any time a team plays that kind of a schedule and then plays a team whose quality is known and high, it is an opportunity to measure them. We can say the same thing about Curry coming in to play NU. Eastern fans know a lot more about Oswego than about Hamline. The reality is as far as enhancing their reputation, Adrian's OOC opportunities are very important.

Since they have returned home from the shores of Lake Superior, the Vikings have gone an unimpressive 2-1-1. I am really curious on how they do against Colby and NEC next week. Where would I rank SSC? Somewhere between 11 and 15, which means every other MASCAC should be below them.

Very true...But they also lost to said team and Neumann was nowhere near where they were at the end of the season in that series.

Granted, Adrian probably improved just like Neumann but that series is not the same as the opportunity that lays ahead for Adrian on the 8th.

Re: ***Mid-Season Posters Poll - December 29, 2009***

Gaining respect from the east, or changing perception simply does not matter.

The Oswego game doesn't count for NCAA purposes, and adrian's only real chance to make the ncaas is to win the mcha autobid.

If it's all about perception, then why do the U18 games not count? has anyone else played them 3 times and not lost recently? The Hamline games do count towards the ncaas, and the pipers have looked very good so far this season with an 8 game unbeaten streak and 3-0 record against the ncha.

No offense, but the bulldog's game against Oswego is a glorified exhibition, where the stats matter but the results honestly don't. It should still be interesting and a test for both teams, but calling it the biggest game for Adrian or a potential make or break game for oswego's pool c chances is over-reacting in a large way.

Not quite a freebie as it affects the secondary criteria. As it was explained to me in Duluth, the committee can apply the secondary criteria any time it wants (probably when the smoke gets too thin).

Since Adrian's only hope of making the tournament is to win the MCHA, and if they're kept West, they're going to SNC, then for them it means zippo. It may help Oswego if they don't win the SUNYAC for a Pool C bid.

Re: ***Mid-Season Posters Poll - December 29, 2009***

Of Adrian ends up ranked, then it could help or hurt Oswego a little bit. If they don't end up ranked then it will matter very little, and may hurt the lakers even if they win based on oowp.

Still not a huge or defining game when it comes to the ncaas. For fan hype it's still huge though. But there is a difference.

Basic premise of the post I was preparing.:)

Thanks!

I understand Adrian's only chance is the MCHA autobid...Clearly the last two years are perfect examples of why Adrian won't get a Pool C bid if they fail to win the MCHA.

However, Adrian will now be linked to Oswego when it comes to secondary criteria and Adrian also has a big link to Hamline and the rest of the western teams when it comes to at-large selection out west.

Also, like I said...if Adrian beats Oswego and Hamline sweeps Adrian...that can only help every western team in the "perception of east vs west" teams when it comes time for Pool C selections.

The western committee would be stupid to not rank Adrian if the Bulldogs beat Oswego.

Re: ***Mid-Season Posters Poll - December 29, 2009***

That doesn't have anything to do with my point.

The rankings are supposed to be based ona team's stats, winning one out of region game shouldn't be the basis for beig ranked or unranked. Unless you think Salem should absolutely be ranked inthr ncaa's regardless of what they do the rest of the season.

Adrian was *undefeated* last year and still unranked. Webb's not at a computer now but about the committe he says 'you're just realizing that now?'
