Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

You will like playing against the Gophers, we usually have a good skating, puck possession type team that likes to go up and down the rink.

Now Bucky on the other hand, can you say trap. ;)

If that's the case, then I can't wait for the last weekend of the season to come! Those will be some seriously fun games to watch.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

Thanks for coming out to Rochester guys. Outside of that awful first period *cough* I thought it was an awesome game. Oddly enough, one of the better losses we've had. In the 2nd and 3rd periods it could have gone either way and i think it was hard fought by both teams. I look forward to seeing you folk in the future!

4four4- did you happen to see the game?

If you did- do you play a fast paced skill game like BC does? I'm hoping so- not that last nights game would be an indicator that we would be better than you, but more that the game was a whole lot of fun to watch. Amazing flow, going up and down the ice, crisp passing, hard checks- but no real interference, and not really a trap to be seen by either squad. If B1G play is like that, it WILL make college hockey on TV fun to watch, and should bring more eyes. The game really kept everyone glued to the ice.

Hope we get to see more of that all season.

We are going to find out soon enough how the Gophers match up against the Eagles. They come to Mariucci for two games this year if I am not mistaken.

Uh, yeah, like in 2 weeks. Friday 10/25 and Sunday 10/27.

Make it a L-O-N-G trip home for them.

And it was mentioned on the BTN, too- how could I miss that.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

I find it interesting there is only 1 post about the RIT game in this thread, and it is from an RIT fan.

I guess many of us were busy watching football or the Tigers (Detroit, not Rochester).

Not sure what to think of the hockey game, since all I have to go on is the box score. I was excited when I saw it was 4 - 0 and figured we had it in hand. Then it looks like we took a whole lot of penalties in the 2nd and allowed RIT to get back in it.

It's good to see some of the freshman get on the scoresheet already. I'm guessing both teams had a good learning experience (Michigan that no lead is safe, and RIT that they can battle back from a 4 goal deficit).

I know our D is young, and 46 shots on goal for the opponent certainly shows it. Sounds like Racine did a great job, despite the 4 goals.

Honestly, I can't give any intimate details of the game when I was only checking on it periodically. RIT has a good core of offensive forwards from last season, but it appears that their goaltending or defensive protection, is suspect. I didn't expect a sterling road game with such a young roster, but I don't think I expected the colllapse in the 2nd period, either. It smelled like last season too much, especially against RIT in the opener. I don't know if all of the penalties were earned, doesn't sound like our radio team agreed. But, our PK was awful, a complete turnaround from the performance on Thursday where the team was disciplined and only allowed 2 PP chances. (But, 5x5 they were a little loose and BC didn't capitalize on it like they did against RPI.)

UNH will sober this team up in Durham if they don't play a strong two way style. I like our talent, but playing pond shinny isn't going to win games on the road.

Edit: Wonderful one word anonymous rep comment for my RIT comments: "knucklehead". Have to love tools who can't see it for what it is.

I am excited for tomorrow! Headed to New Hampshire with some friends. Anyone else going to the game?

Wish I could... it is a bucket list trip to say the least... but my son is getting married tomorrow, so I guess this year was out. ;)

Yes, I've seen a handful of games played by both teams...and recall several MI/MN games. Similar styles...Michigan goes off talent and speed...as 4x4 said...Gophers while fast are first, foremost are a puck possession team.

Is there any "free" online viewing tonight? Tomorrow?

Another question: OT this year? 5:00 (with no scoring) and done or do we have to endure Shoot-outs still?

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

I didn't see the RIT game, but I'm going to guess it was like last night's UNH game, it's hard to control the puck and the play of the game when you are constantly parading to the penalty box. The officiating wasn't biased, just tight. I couldn't believe the penalty they called on DeBlois when he made a great play and stole the puck from UNH (the play the refs gave UNH a penalty shot for).

Any word on Racine? We didn't see anything, and think he just pulled something. He stayed on the bench, but was obviously in pain. Nagelvoort looked great in relief.

Hopefully today goes better. We were outplayed and outshotout shot yesterday. I think the constant penalties played into that a lot.

Pretty sure the Big Ten has shootouts. Which i am not in favor of.

The B1G has shootouts but they are only mandatory for conference games. During non-conference games at home, the coaches can agree to have a shootout if the game ends tied after overtime. If they do go to a shootout, it is even more of an exhibition than it is during conference play.
