Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

You may want to go back in time and read the drivel. If what the pretend Lunatics were posting is representative- well, it certainly sucks to be you, then, doesn't it? If you want to 1)pretend that all things are even and 2) that we really care, fine- that's your perogitive. But let us all remind you, Michigan has never used Western as a measuring stick, and quite frankly, we only consider you an opponent and nothing more. We are not the ones elevating these games to what they are not. What's funny, you think we are some kind of rival, and since we don't recipicate, then we are somehow arrogant. Well, like streaker so poetically put it- suck it.

As for you being "very much alive"- well, good luck with that. And Go Blue.

Hmmmm I think you all misread the tone of my post. A little ribbing in the first paragraph, but the 2nd was all business. I have no idea what the deal with these "fake lunatics" is, but don't lump me in with that. I've been a WMU fan and poster since starting there my freshman year after growing up in Ann Arbor and being raised a um fan. Long time lurker here at USCHO. UMICH, you wanted to know who I am, so there you go. Read my posts or dont, I don't care. You just asked where us Western fans have gone and I wanted to show that we are still here, supporting our team, and looking forward to another potential NCAA game.

As for us being even, I was just pointing out what fun these post culhane years have been. Great games (that senior night game at yost a couple years ago, fridays game, the ccha championship last year), and good competition with our instate non-rivals. You put quite a few words in my mouth, but again I have no idea what these other WMU fans were saying so I guess that comes with the territory. We know we don't have a stellar hockey history, but are looking forward to the continued rise of our program. Its really too bad penn state had to come in and screw everything up.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

While the clarification is appreciated, bear in mind that to date, you have 7 posts. So unless your freshman year started a very short time ago, you haven't been posting here. And since you are not the first Western fan to start posting in the recent past, it's easy to lump you into all the other band wagon fans that have come along.

When you point out the "interstate non-rivals"- that the opposite of the tone we mostly get. That we should consider all teams who hate us major rivals, and that it's a slight to their program that the most we can do is just get excited to watch our hockey team play a good team in a good game. Nobody is going to take over State's position anytime soon, and goot teams that have come and gone over the past decades have been given their proper respect, but nothing more. Fans seem to think that level of indifference is arrogance, but it's as if you were going to a game at Ferris State- two good teams that pretty much play in hockey.

As for the future, thankfully, Western has not turned it's back on Michigan like Notre Dame and Miami have. So I sure hope we keep playing. I know there's arleady talk about Ferris and Tech, and since you guys are so very close- it seems pretty obvious that we will be playing.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Rickey has mentiond that he does not want to continue to play us. Not sure why, but it has been brought up before.

I was told at a Miami hockey function, that Red wanted to play Miami, but only at Yost, and would not come to Oxford - Miami declined.

See, our sports reporter just posted that Red's goals for teams like Miami is a home and home, alternating years. So if Miami declined, well, there you go. Since we plan on going to Ferris to play, there's no reason why Red would not go to Oxford.

Again, the only reason that Miami declined was because Rico had said at some boosters events that Michigan wanted to play us, but only at Yost. I'll have to go digging around in the hockey archives for the source. I'm not saying that the sports writer was wrong, but I can't really believe that we would decline a fair home-and-home agreement (I'm pretty sure we have already done some scheduling with OSU, so it's not just an anti-big 10 thing).

Well, being that Red is trying to get home-home for top teams around the country, and that Miami isn't going to be taking a dive anytime soon, I find it dubious that it would be a Yost only thing.

In the end, it doesn't matter much- if there are hard feelings, they are not going to go away anytime soon, and after Saturday, the next time we could possibly play is in the NCAA tournament for the foreseeable future.

I'm sure we will all get over it.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

this is why i created a grievance thread. so there could be one B1G (PUN INTENDED) train wreck instead of these little stupid ones.

Yeah, but it's not a JLA trainwreck without NMU being there. :D

My sources at the Daily tell me that your interpretation is correct. Michigan is interested in home NC games ($$), but Red isn't above a fair arrangement with other teams. If that was the case we wouldn't be going to RIT next season. Rico has had foot in mouth disease in the past, especially in front of a partisan crowd, so I wouldn't trust his take as gospel.
And, just add that there really isn't any love lost. I especially love the internet spin of "Rico to A2 when Red leaves". #ell will freeze over first.

What, you still here? Wow, after your team took a roal dump agains the team you hate the most. Amazing.

Yea, 2004 is certainly the recent past. 9 years for sure recent. That's good. Keep on that. But be careful that you keep bringing the Lunatic reputation so far beneath them. I feel so sorry for them that you drag their reputation through the mud. Shocking and sad that you pretend like that.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Hey, I go back to 1995 when I was a first year grad student at Michigan......is that too recent to post? MoFan = Brendan Morrison fan FYI.

I can't seem to find discussion of the CCHA all-time team. Not surprised that BMo is on the first team. I'm very surprised that Turco didn't at least make the second team. I can get my arms around the fact that Ryan Miller is probably more talented, but he played only 3 years and wasn't the sole starter his freshman year. Turco has 2 NCAA championships and is the all-time Division 1 leader in victories (127-28-7 vs Miller's 73-18-12 mark). Just 54 more wins plus 2 NCAA championships. Sure Miller's 1.54 GAA and 94.1% save percentage are clearly better but Turco's GAA was probably around 2.3 across 4 years.

Miller was a 2x player of the year, I can understand picking him for the first team. Not only did he not get first, Turco didn't even make the second team. Mike Liut made the second team with his lofty 53-27-1 record, 3.35 GAA, and 88.8% save percentage.

What did Turco do to **** of the selection committee? http://www.ccha.com/ccha_names_all-time_team.aspx

(I go back to 90-91, with Denny Felsner as the leader- what a team....)

I personally think there is no discussion since the list is quite lame.

Very easy to be upset that there's barely UM inclusion.

But....

4 guys from Bowling Green, of which ONE managed a NC, but only ONE player from Lake State who won 3? There's got to be more than Jim Dowd out there.

There have been 17 teams that have played in the CCHA, all of 6 are represented on the team. A nurf toss would be to add Chris Kunitz to include Ferris.

There have been 7 players who gave won the Hobey Baker from the CCAH, only 4 are on the list (missing Porter, Miele, Holzinger)

I'm sure there have been a tremendous number of multiple All Americans from the CCHA.

The top two winningest goalies of all time for the NCAA are not on the list. (you had Turco, don't forget Shields)

Actually, 5 of the top 6 winninest goalies in NCAA history played in the CCHA- none on the list (add Blackburn #4, Chad Alban MSU #5, and Gary Kruzich BGSU #6)

With so many great players, why can't there be an actual TEAM- as in 4 full lines and 4 goalies.

Basicaly, it's a pretty bad list. So there's not much to discuss.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Good feedback alfablue. Would love to see Billy Muckalt on the TEAM as well, he was a great player and also a 2-time national champ. Had no idea about that one- I'd give him extra credit for both playing at a high level in the CCHA AND taking a bottom dweller team to the Frozen Four as head coach. That's imrpessive. (and now that I know his era, I'm pretty sure I saw him play, when we sat next to Woody Hayes at the old dumpy OSU rink. Heck, he may have been one of my Mite coaches at the same time)

Yea that list was ridiculous, LSSU had one on the list, and there certainly could have been more, just like there could have been more U of M players...The team should have been much larger for how longer the league has been around but if they were going to keep it that small, it's certainly peculiar that they put so many players from a team that was mediocre relative to some of their CCHA counterparts

Yes their stellar reputation amongst the Walvarines is certainly in jeopardy with me running amuck!

Your wit and orignality is stunning. Walmart Woverine- man, how in the world did you manage to come up with that on your own? And you tell us we are new? Wow, I'm sure you didn't hear that one or twice or thrice before.

I'm not a "Walverine", I am actually an Alumnus of The University of Michigan. But you are still an idiot (your stellar reputation is in tact).
