Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Joe, that just proves how balanced our fan base is. Other fan bases jump for joy when they, as we did, briefly edge into a #1 seed position. At Michigan #1 seeds are our birthright, even in potentially streak-breaking years like this one. Personally, I get excited about NCAA championship banners.

And the streak. I really want to continue the streak.

Laying low, Joe... examining the composite schedule and prepping for what will no doubt be a difficult last eight games. Also awaiting word on the extent of David Wohlberg's injured arm that occurred in practice this week. It could potentially be serious- been in a sling all week.

I was just needling Jim and Scott. They challenged each other near the start of the season to keep this thread on the first two pages.

#1 seeds mean NOTHING. Recall the '96/'97 season when our guys spent the entire season as #1 only to lose in the semifinals in Milwaukee? The next year was much better when we came out of nowhere.

I really want to continue the streak.

YES!
THE STREAK MUST BE KEPT ALIVE!
I was in mourning around Thanksgiving when it looked like it was over.

Crazy weekend and we didnt even play.

You'd think someone would have made a big ccha statement, but that didn't happen and while we sit in 7th, anything can happen.

For us, the d is really starting to do well, and if the shooters can get some touch.

I still worry we will just add to the ccha mess, though

Man, go away on for a while when there is no hockey and people start taking shot...:)

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Update on Wohlberg: skating by himself, no contact drills. May be with team next practice. Was in stands today and his status is probable. No sling.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Wohlberg is unofficially questionable for this weekend. Mixed signals from coach Berenson on his health. My take is, Miami is a big, physical team and he doesn't want Wohly to risk more serious injury. Time for our secondary scoring to kick it in gear.

Just a few min ago, Spath over at the Rivals site is reporting that Wohlberg will play this weekend. whew.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Decent win, great first and half second period, but the game really slowed down after the fourth goal.

Good thing Ricky prepared his team to play a dumb mental game since they totally forgot how to shoot. Instead of shooting, run the goalie. Moron.

On our play, the teams puck handling is getting really good, including Claire. PP is MUCH sharper. The team is playing with some good confidence. Good stuff!

Oh and the announcer didn't butcher the score o guy out there. So close!!! :)

Didn't help we started Reichard. He's been awful the past two months. Started to see the boys come around in the second but couldn't bury any of those chances (BIGGS with the empty netter goes high and wide). Don't know what was up with running Hunwick so much, looks like we took a page from Notre Dame tonight. See Knapp tomorrow and a better result for the skins, hopefully.

Since December...

Knapp
6-2-0
.953 GAA
.940 SV%

Reichard
1-4-0
3.56 GAA
.867 SV%

So far Keith Sergott in his reffing resume has reffed the Kampfer attack by FYS, the ND thug fest earlier this season, and tonight's let's run over Hunwick all night party. Way to make a stand you worthless piece of crap. I hope he doesn't follow us to the B1G. I don't think I could handle another season with this knucklehead.

Sounds like an excuse... Are you sure that you're not a sparty in disguise?

On a different note, even though Michigan sits in a tie for 6th place right now I'm fairly optimistic after tonight's performance. We have two games in-hand on 2 of the 3rd place teams (miami and tuo$) and as of right now they are only 1 point ahead of us. We are actually only 4 points out of first, and get this, after tomorrow nights game with miami we play 3 of the bottom 4 teams in the league (sparty, Northern, and Bowling Green). None of those games will be easy, especially the annoying Lil'Brother games, but we're looking good. I'm not talking regular season title, although that is possible, but definitely Top 4.

I guess that early #1 ranking wasn't too far off? I also suppose the 0-7-1 period was good to put the fire back in the team.

Finally, what happened to suckeye? Not that I care, actually it is entertaining me to see those idiots suffer but wow.

:)

No excuse, like I said started to come around in the second, but that first was awful. Definitely deserved the L with how they came out tonight. No puck possession whatsoever in the first, the boys were all over the place defensively and looked lost. Settled down a bit but it was well over by then. Those goalie stats are hard to ignore right now though.

What was with running Hunwick? And we have had similar goalie issues in the past, I'm thinking Billy Sauer and Bryan Hogan? Am I remembering correctly fellow Blue Ice fans?
