Michigan vs Michigan St 2/5-2/6: The series with the trophy

7-0 UM on Friday, 4-3 UM on Saturday.

I saw the Friday game on TV and was in Columbus for the Saturday game. MSU is playing better and the team effort level was a little higher. A couple of the players actually looked pretty good! (MacEachern, in particular, had a very good weekend.)

At the very least, I no longer think a 29-loss season is a possibility.

But we're still getting crushed this weekend. Even if we had six healthy defensemen, UM is a matchup nightmare.

Nahh it won't be as bad as the last series. I still think we get swept but I think it is much more respectable.

I'm gonna say 5-3 UM tonight, 4-1 tomorrow.

Somehow tonight is sold out. That makes two years in a row, even though the big ten tournament game only had 5k at most.

Re: Michigan vs Michigan St 2/5-2/6: The series with the trophy

Maybe a dumb question, but is the game on BTN tomorrow at 5 live or a repeat of Friday night?

Re: Michigan vs Michigan St 2/5-2/6: The series with the trophy

Does anyone know if this game can be seen online anywhere besides BTN? Thanks

Winner of the game at the Joe. So a team could win 3 of the 4 conference games but not win the trophy.

I didn't want to prove the 3 of 4 wins and no trophy thing, but now with yesterday's result, I guess I do.

Good game State. Limited Michigan's offensive opportunities. Only the 5th game this season where Michigan has been held to 2 or fewer goals.

Well, that was unexpected.

It's games like that why I don't understand your team's struggles. It looked like we were going to dominate at the start, but once you guys had some offensive time, the game totally changed.

Our D was as expected- 3 goals one way or another.

And our O moved a lot, but your D stifled us.

Having had a few seasons where the team shows that kind of potential only to lay down at other times, that would drive me nuts. And having a different football team struggle badly, lose bad games, but finish the season with good wins, you may be losing your window to change coaches. Idaho ended up keeping their very losing coach.

MI drops a few more unexpected games and I could see a potential stranger outcome; MN wins the B1G but doesn't make the tourney thanks to horrible NC record.

Potential for sure via the regular season. And who knows what will happen in March.

Had MSU not dropped one to awful Wisconsin last year, that would've been the exact situation for us. We were in first place for about an hour on the final day after our win at Yost until MN took the lead on PSU and never looked back.

It was a great game to watch. You can't deny the intensity of the rivalry.
The first two goals were awesome with a penalty shot and the puck coming right to Michigan's player as he came out of the penalty box allowing him to go unopposed to the net!

We seem to put a few of these types of games together each season. Though, for whatever reason, they don't come against you guys, which seems like it should be natural, but Minnesota. We've had some great games with the Gophers over the past few years when we have no business being in the game. Many have ended in L's, but I believe we're still the only team to have a Big Ten win at Mariucci and one of only two Big Ten teams to take points from a game at Mariucci.

Did not see that coming......at all. Good job Boy's. Good job. Either way it ended up, that was a great College Hockey game. Great game. Now that is behind you. It's done. Can't rest on that one laurel. Puck drop at 1700 at Munn. Lets see what happens there.

I could be wrong, but lately I have been surprised by the lack of nastiness in this rivalry. Last night there wasn't much "after the whistle stupidity". A sold out arena, playing for a trophy, and a close, intense game would seem to breed some nastiness. I didn't really see much. Of course MSU couldn't afford to take penalties, so maybe they were being disciplined.

Did you miss the game at Yost? It was filled with loads of stupid cheap shots by us.
