Michigan Tech Season Thread Part V: We Were Dead On Arrival

Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part V: We Were Dead On Arrival

Speaking of which, UAA on saturday was the worst turn out in at least a year... BY FAR. It was seriously like 15 students in section L and a bunch of old people sitting behind us that moved into those spots. The whole rink was pretty empty but the student section especially.

Total attendance for said game was 2063 according to USCHO. That's on the lower end of what we normally get. I fear a drop below 2000 is coming soon.

The packed games earlier in the year always showed numbers way too low and now I think this number is just a little bit high. The majority of the attendance drop was students, it is crazy.

Am I supposed to be surprised by this? 'Cause I'm not. Outside of the diehards, Tech's fanbase is as fickle as any other. Just about any other team would experience the same attendance problems if they had just gone through two seasons in a row like we have.

And well, look at the opponent. It seemed pretty darn full for MN (of course, we helped with that quite a bit ;) ).

But you'll see a similar dip in attendance for games against the UAA's of the world at just about every school.

True

When Tech's having a typical bad year, attendance spikes are mostly reserved for eNeMa U, Minnesota, and Wisconsin (a lesser spike for the NoDaks is also common). Even when Colorado College was the #1 team in the country a couple years ago (this fact had been decently advertised), attendance was average. When the team is bad, no one cares about games against the little fish, regardless of how good they might be.

What about for Carny?

I asked Yager on Facebook but what do you guys think?

What is the attendance compared to other visiting teams?

It seemed pretty full last year when I was there, but it was my first Carny experience so my perspective isn't the greatest.

Yeah but we were managing a great and full crowd all during the first semester. But right when we got back, the NMU game was very empty compared to a normal NMU game and the UAA series was just terrible. Did the GLI really push everyone off the edge or what?

It will really depends on Mankato after our bye week. That will show us a lot. But normally, no, you would not have a spot anywhere for more than two or three people in a row, for sure.

Speaking of carny, i got your FB invite. What nights do you have the hotel? I'm considering taking you up on the offer, but I haven't finalized my plans yet. I may be going to the superbowl instead. ;)

Carny is usually close to sellout no matter who it is. Probably because that's all there is to do at that point in the weekend.

Interesting. It's possible that most gave up after the GLI, but the next two series should be telling. Even though a good Duluth team is paying a visit for Carny, the only "name" opponent on our home schedule for the rest of the year is Weesconsin.

Yup. You, Boosh, me, PB, Yager, Gulk, Flashy, rmk, Willie, cp, ST.. anyone else?

ahem...

techcodemonkey

thank you...

And yeah...I expect Carny to be pretty much sold out, I've been to all 4 games in my 2 Carny years and all of them have been pretty much sold out crowds...I don't really expect anything different this year...there's just so many people around that the stands still fill up no matter how bad the team sucks goats

Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part V: We Were Dead On Arrival

yes, its true even John Scott wasn't JOHN SCOTT his freshman year. but he was always HUGE. yes, we used to have fighters. not anymore.

This is what I thought. Probably should get my tickets soon.

:D It is for Fri and Sat. I have a handful of UMD people coming so I am trying to cram as many people in to save money for everyone. If you must go to the Super Bowl I would understand :D
