Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part IV: You Guys Give Up, Or Are You Thirsty For More?

Good questions, for Jamie's system, is it less effective on the large olympic rinks, we struggle so much at those rink. For #3 I also wonder if Jamie just aims lower at recruits and strikes out when he goes for some more talented recruit. A WCHA should at least be able to have 1 NHL draftee.

Here's Jamie's postgame thoughts:
We had 3 team goals for tonight: work hard, compete, play with discipline, "I think we did that"
Didn't see 5 min major, saw it during intermission didnt' think it was a penalty
It was a hard hit, shoulder to shoulder check, but not a penalty
They scored two on that basically, (one right after it ended), tough pill to swallow
Dirk pointed out Likteig's offensive skill: Yes, Likteig has good speed/skill, needs to learn the D side of the game, not much ice time tonight, but some scoring chances when he was out there, Needs to be responsible for that part of the game
Robinson made some good saves early, but should've had two of them that went five hole
Genoe played well in relief, need the starting goalie to finish more game

Jamie must have been watching a different team out there. His team's have not played with discipline since ......forever. They work hard at taking foolish penalties. You don't play a game to compete. You play a game to WIN. You can't keep playing the "goalie shuffle" every game. That doesn't do anything for his confidence. At this point in the season if you are still doing line shuffling your team will have no cosistency. (don't know for sure if he is still doing that). Those things should be worked out earlier in the season not half way through it. He has lost his team. They don't want to play for him or his style for some reason. This season can now be kissed good-bye. Really hard to want to follow the team the rest of the way through. I hope changes come real soon.

So what's it gonna be this time, Russell butt-kissers?

"We scored twice! Moral victory!!11!!1"

"The powerplay went one-for-four! Moral victory!!11!!1"

Face it, your golden boy and his worthless assistants are gone in March. We might as well start talking about his replacement.

Laugh all you want. I've been following this program for more than three decades - well before most of you kids were even in diapers. I've watched Tech go from contender to mere pretender, and it disgusts me. Obviously times have changed and now it's merely acceptable to have a program that ekes out a few wins here and there. But hey, that's OK! We'll just drink the blowout losses away!

Well...
here's a question for you scientist types.

Given F=ma. and given that acceleration is the change in velocity over time right, then, since time is not the same on mars as it is on earth, does that mean that the force required to reach a particular velocity of a body of given mass, is different on mars?
and if so then F doesn't = ma anymore does it?
And couldn't it therefore be possible that at some place in the universe where time is much different than here, the force could be say 1/2 or even less than is required on earth?
Just curious. But yeah this is a serious question.

Last, whoever that guy is needs to take a chill pill.

Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part IV: You Guys Give Up, Or Are You Thirsty For More?

I think what Shirtless Guy said has a lot of merit.

Although, as a hockey purist, I hated when all Tech would do was trap and shoot the puck out of the zone.
This resulted in getting outshot 30-10, but the score was respectable.

To be honest, only seeing Tech 2 times a year on TV and at the GLI, I have no idea what Jamie's system is currently as of 2010.

He started at Tech preaching up tempo aggressive forechecking style, but I would say his early teams played defense first and achieved some success.

When I went to Fraser and saw my beloved Huskies lose to Wayne State, I almost lost it forever......

Now several years later, they just plain stink and the other teams dominate them on a regular basis. For the team this year, there is a lot to be said to just go back to a defensive system that takes care of your own end first. Maybe you can squeak out a few wins by getting 4 power plays on the night and converting to help win a 2-1 or 3-2 game.

It stinks to be a Tech hockey fan. Come on guys, there is half a season. Start over. Do not continue whatever style it is you are attempting. A hardworking defensive style should be the focus now.

Considering how long it's been since Tech contended for anything...how are you still expecting it?

I don't claim to be an expert on Tech hockey, but from what I have seen this season it seems that Tech's biggest problem has been goaltending (which isn't to say it's their only problem....they have quite a few). But from what I can tell goaltending has been pretty horrible all season. It's hard to play a real defensive system and try to win games with 2 or 3 goals when your goaltender plays like he reads in braille.

Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part IV: You Guys Give Up, Or Are You Thirsty For More?

The atmosphere at the SCSU arena last night was terrible. It was worse than the Ralph. Boring!

I give Tech credit on 2 things though: They did get 2 goals, which exceeded my expectations. And the 4 fans in attendance (that weren't related to the Tech players) were all girls.

I disagree, I think Genoe has been fine, he's been hung out to dry way too many times by his D. Robinson has struggled, but Genoe is a decent goaltender.

*nods*

From what I can recall, the only time that the outcome of a game was completely Genoe's fault was the game against Sparty. He had to be pulled for Robinson, who was pretty much godawful (though to be fair to him, the team had given up playing too).

This team has problems that go far deeper than goaltending. It's difficult for our goalies to have good stats if the team in front of them isn't performing. They turn the puck over waaaay too much and spend too much time in the penalty box.

On the bright side, we have a KILLER parody of Muppets for the Misfits to sing now.

Who says time isn't the same on mars? Sure a "day" or a "year" might take longer on Mars because it takes a different amount of time to complete an orbit or revolve than Earth, but those terms are arbitrary. F=ma uses seconds as the time unit and a second is still a second on Mars.

A second is equal to "the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium 133 atom."

The only time that would change is if you were traveling at excessive speeds close to the speed of light, then you're talking relativistic effects.

I do believe we're going to have to hear this. :D

I usually just emphasize the word "TORTURE" in the original song after a bad loss.

If anyone has any ideas/tweaks, I'd love to hear them.

It's time to blow some passes
It's time to miss the net
It's time to get embarrassed on the Husky Show tonight
It's time to slack on defense
It's time to dump and chase
It's time to lose again on the Husky Show tonight
Why do we always come here?
I guess we're really lame
It's like some kind of torture
To have to watch the game
Their power play has started
Our PK is retarded
We smell like someone farted
Crap they scored on us again, we can never win, this line doesn't rhyme, screw it let's get drunk
This is what we call the Husky Show
