That Blake Pietila kid who's been mentioned around here apparently did not make the U17 team. Sounds like he was a darkhorse to begin with.

well, personally I'm sorry to see him go and it will be a hit but to say enjoy 9th is totally uncalled for. As far as our neighbors from the rural minnesota town, they have grounds to talk?
I'm sure jsr will blame the coach.

Caught the Thursday scrimmage at the Caps development camp: Katellus and Doriott on the blue team and Cousens on the white team. The white team came from behind to win big.

I thought Katellus in particular looked real solid, quick skater with a hard slap shot, good puck awareness.

WCHA pride moment: Joe Finley absolutely nuked JP Testwuide at center ice... JP's helmet popped off like champagne cork!

Ralph Baer, were you thaer? I kinda looked for, but didn't see anyone with RPI stuff.

Yup, that's him. Good shot, good speed, good vision. Even QBed a powerplay unit as a freshman in 07-08. Losing him last December was an enormous loss to a team already gimped by numerous other injuries and surgeries.

This article confirms that Hauswirth decided not to go to Tech before Washington offered him a contract and not the other way around. Though the article also incorrectly states that he was going to Northern.

Sounds to me like maybe his agent pushed him, which wouldn't surprise me due to his age and the interest from the Caps. I mean, he can spend two or three years playing 38 games a season at MTU and probably never make it beyond the AHL, or Washington can afford to risk sending him to the AHL or ECHL right now, and double his potential playing/development time while he's still reasonably young. If they really do like what they've seen from him so far, then I think it's an easy decision for the Caps. As for Jake, he acted no differently than most hockey players in the same situation.

If we can get him training with a real trainer and playing with people that take it seriously, we'll see what happens.

I guess the Caps scouts have been to a few Tech games :p

That makes absolutely no sense. If the Caps called him and said, instead of going to college how about we offer you a contract and see where things go from there, I can understand thoughs circumstances.

But they say that a player who by all accounts had every intention of going to college and wanted to play at Tech, had his agent call out of the blue and say that he suddenly changed his mind without the Capitals offering some promise of a contract doesn't quite add up to me.

Not that it matters now that Hauswirth is a professional hockey player, but his "agent" could not have made any discussions. As an amateur, Hauswirth has only a "family adviser."

And after reading the quote Boosh dug up, I would venture to say that the Capitals have ZERO faith in where Tech is headed. Maybe Hauswirth SHOULD have chosen Northern over Tech. :D

Yeah, and I think most people can infer what the term "family advisor" usually means.
