Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Screw It, Somebody Look Up The Cheat Codes

speaking of gopher fans since melmac showed up...it appears that the gopher nation and twin cities mtu alumni will be watching the Minnesota vs MTU games from the new MacInnes Suite...details have not been finalized yet but it is in the works...can you just imagine all of those gopher fans being able to drink while attending a game at MacInnes?:p
I will sit with my people. If they're in the suite, so am I.

Wait, wha?

I'll sit amongst the real fans, with the blood, sweat, and tears. :) :D

And who says we can't drink during the games anyway? ;)
I don't know what you're talking about... :)

On an unrelated note...
*fingers crossed* for HN. He's got a job prospect on the horizon. Hopefully, this one will pan out.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Screw It, Somebody Look Up The Cheat Codes

Apparently the U17 team missed your scouting report before they signed him.

The U17 team signed him? huh, I missed it. You would think his name would show up on the final roster then wouldn't you...

He was invited to the U17 tryouts. He did not make the final cuts.

His making the U17, was going to be one of the deciding factors on whether he goes to the OHL or not. At least in his mind. His parents may have a different take on it...

I've seen him around. He is not a big kid by any stretch of the imagination. Average size sums it up nicely. Middle of the pack speed. Good vision and hands. Coaches say a very hard worker. Never has been a prolific goal scorer just look his numbers and you will see that.

I'll stand by my scouting report.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Screw It, Somebody Look Up The Cheat Codes

We're a part of Michigan, too!

No wonder they're having a hard time recruiting the blue chippers... the UP isn't even on the map!

Post 5,000... just to keep you guys down.

So sad but true. I can remember state maps back in the '70's that would just cut off the whole western UP. I still see local tv broadcasts with maps that cut off the Keweenaw or more typically the Keweenaw north of the Portage.

Lets be honest with ourselves here, does anyone ACTUALLY care about the UP? :p

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Screw It, Somebody Look Up The Cheat Codes

I wish there were US maps that cut off/out Wisconsin.

Wisconsin isn't that bad, its just the people that occupy it. The land in Wisconsin would actually be quite nice if there weren't any Wisconsinites there.:p ;)

Good idea.

I wouldn't listen to anything JSR has to say, in my opinion he/she is completely delusional.

On this board where opinions of unknowledgeable, uninformed posters are considered credible based on the number of postings by the particular poster - yes delusional.

Based on knowledgable, informed hockey posters- usually spot on.

Regarding Blake Pietila- have no fear for the wise one has spoken- he is on the U17 roster for this year as the uninformed will find out once the final roster comes out.

Regarding the bungling of recruiting -

believe Russell if you want that MTU should be recognized for the great job they did recruiting Zabotel and Hauswirth- the simple fact is neither has or ever will play a game for Tech.

It took five to six years to change his recruiting philosopy where he is on record of stating to the effect of "we are now going after skilled players instead of character players as our new recruiting philosophy"??? One year in the WCHA should have been enough to realize that the WCHA is not the same as the ECAC.

Dismissing Trent Daavettila, who was at least if not more skilled than Peter Rouleau (Do you remember him- he happened to be the Finlandia transfer who grew up playing alot of pond hockey, who most on here thought would be lucky to get a few shifts as 3rd or fourth liner but yet turned out to be Techs best player and most entertaining to watch), as not good enough to play in the WCHA as he attends MTU for four years- who's GM at a higher level has stated “Trent (Daavettila) possesses the type speed and agility that is made for the ECHL,” said Welsh. “Seeing Trent for only 20 games, he’s another player that we have only scratched the surface of when it comes to his potential.” Tech was saved from embarassment in the Hockey New article by not being mentioned as the educational institution he attended for four years as he played senior hockey.

Being a day late and a dollar short on Blake (and Chad) Pietila to the point of now trying to convince NMU to release older brother Chad to get more leverage.

Bungling??- Should I continue or is that enough for now?

Well we play with the players we have, not those we might have had and average speed and good hands seems to sum up most of the players on the roster, with one or two notable defensive exceptions.

But having said that there are a few things I'd like to see us do different. I think we get our share of scoring opportunities, even with our system, the problem is we seem not to be able to take advantage of them. Either the shot is off the net, or it is saved miraculously, or something.

I think maybe if we had guys recognize their role and accomplish what their role is we'd be better off. For instance Rohn will never be a big guy in front of the net, he has to learn how a small guy operates to be effective. Once he learns his role and how to do it he could help us.
Overall I think We will have more scoring, my worries are on defense and to a lessor extent in goal. If our new defensive recruits are what I hope they are, maybe this will be a much different year.

Anyone who comes on this board are reads anything as informed, knowledgeable or credible is a moron

And its a lot harder to coach a D1 hockey team from behind a computer keyboard. When you actually have to do it, I imagine its a bit more complicated. Jamie Russell is a really nice guy, I'm sure if you called him up and set up a meeting, he'd be more than willing to sit down with you to discuss some of the changes we could be making to the program

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Screw It, Somebody Look Up The Cheat Codes

Anyway, anyone know if there is a camping trip this year?

The fact that he might (personally I don't really consider your word to be very credible...) be on the final roster doesn't change the fact that he is not on the current roster.

Are you related to Daavettila or something? It seems like you have a grudge against Russell because he didn't recruit the kid. The fact of the matter is he didn't even make a significant impact for Finlandia, and he didn't have anything close to a decent season for any relevant team until this past year.

So I guess you probably should continue, because missing out on one player (who was mediocre at best) and rumours about the Pietilas doesn't really add up to bungling for me. The bottom line is Russell has brought in an acceptable amount of talent considering the difficulties of recruiting for a small, remote school that has a tiny budget compared to the rest of the league.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Screw It, Somebody Look Up The Cheat Codes

hey, we were up in Copper Harbor over the weekend and didn't have any wifi connection.

what did I miss?

has anyone suggested firing Russell yet? any discussion of how many games we're going to lose to start the season? any idea why our recruiting sucks so bad?

I so look forward to the start of the season. ;)

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Screw It, Somebody Look Up The Cheat Codes

I blame the economy.

Or Obama. Yeah, its Obamas fault

Since you seem to be so informed compared to the delusional slappies you're trying to educate, perhaps you'd care to mention your sources regarding the Pietilas? I mean, it's not like the posters around here are the Russell Family Mafia - we're not gonna start tracking people down and leaving dead horses in their beds. :)

If not, I guess we'll just have to wait until all this information is made public, huh? When would you guess this will all become common knowledge?

Ummm... You guys are in the UP, instead of horses heads, wouldn't you Mafia types leave heads from roadkill deer in peoples beds instead?? ;)
