Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Screw It, Somebody Look Up The Cheat Codes

Hey, ctf, congrats on the big shew this weekend. First runner-up is pretty cool.

But Anne Golus? Give me a break.

It's just a matter of time before she gets in trouble with some previous indiscretion, gets stripped of her crown, and the first runner-up will have to step up to the podium.

Worst part about it?
She's my cousin's ex.
Who I despise.
=/
But thanks, it was a good time :)

Check out the Gazette's website, and see what the pageant director said about her. I almost puked.

You all'd be proud... in our intros, we had to say something about us so, I introduced myself and then said "I'll be attending Michigan Tech in the fall. Go Huskies!"
The girl who's going to NMU definitely did not say "Go Wildcats!" :p

It's Dusty Collins' fault. Just another reason to hate NMU.
So very, very true. :)

The men and women in stripes would be more than willing to expedite this process by plant...err, discovering evidence of this.
Like one really needs a reason to hate NMU??;)

what's this facebook you speak of? :p
Its something on the Intarwebs.

Instead of tech starting off 0-8, firing Russell, and bringing in a has been; why don't they get rid of him now and hire Mark Johnson?

Instead of wildly hypothesizing about how the season will start, why don't we wait and see before jumping to conclusions? :)

While starting off 0-8 is always a valid possibility with Michigan Tech, I don't see it happening this year. The opening schedule is very tough, but I think Tech pulls one or two out.

I also don't believe that firing the coach after an 0-8 start does anything but set the program back. The only thing it does is give the new coaches a jump start on recruiting for next year, which is already going to be hurt by the instability of the program.

Coach Russell has improved Michigan Tech hockey after the dark ages, it just hasn't shown yet. It had better start showing for his sake, but the signs of progress are still there.

I have faith that the groundwork is being laid for Tech to be a solid WCHA program. Of course, it is hard to show that when 8 of the other 9 schools already have such a groundwork in place and are lightyears ahead of Tech. A small remote school like Tech cannot close that gap in two or three years, and perhaps not even five or six years.

It cannot be done in six years on a budget the size of Tech's. I seem to recall from a discussion about WCHA budgets earlier this offseason that even UAA and Mankato spend about twice as much on their hockey programs as MTU (not including travel expenses and coaching salaries). Both those schools are approximately twice the size of Tech (UAA is closer to 2.5x), are located in states that have somewhat functioning economies and semi-competent leadership, and just generally have more money to funnel into athletics.

The money it would've taken to turn the program into a regular contender ASAP simply was not there when Russell was hired, and it certainly is not there now. Suzanne and JR just have to work with what they are given, and while donors have stepped up to fill some of the financial gaps to cover items such as arena updates, it will still be several more years before we are caught up to the rest of the schools in the league after almost two decades of coaching instability, aging facilities, and financial stagnation. I think that Bemidji, a school even smaller than MTU, is about to experience some of this as well, though the new arena and their MN location will go a long way towards doing the recruiting necessary to prepare them for the weekly grind of the WCHA.

this takes all. winner winner. the season isn't even close to starting and we've already got calls for Russell's head.

I think JSR will be calling for Russell's head until Tech wins a National Championship. And even then I wouldn't be surprised to see JSR saying we should hire some coach who recently left a large powerhouse program.

*raises hand*

Oooh, I know! Pick me! Pick me!

We can get Dean Blais!

Oh, wait...crap.

Um, maybe that guy from Maine will be interested when they fire him in a couple years? ;)
