It sucks there is no more MTU hockey for a few months, but my off season just got off to an awesome start last night with this new addition! Anyone have a yearbook handy or might be walking through the rink in the near future and can look at team photos to put a year on this one? The "H" not being part of "uskies" and the dot of the "i" being way off on its own is something new for me.

Unfortuantely I don't have any of my yearbooks with me in MN, and MTU took them all down from the site when they changed to the new website format. My guess is only based on one white jersey photo I found in a WCHA yearbook posted online which has the caption MTU vs CC in the 1960s. It has the same seperated "H" and dot as this jersey. See page one of this partial yearbook section from the WCHA.

Regardless, it is old and rare. Oh yeah and it was offered for sale as "Western Michigan Univ Huskies". It is true - everyone wants to be us. And if you were going to mix up two teams... "Why Western?"

Those are the ugliest jerseys I've ever seen in my life. Way past the point of being so ugly that they are cool...

Kalamazoo Wings annually hold a McDonalds charity game (sans pre-game Ronald pep talk) with similar looking jerseys. They also color the ice yellow for the game.

i talked to his dad at one of Sam's games this year, he said they want Jake to go play in the BCHL next year.

In regards to Sam, gritty and very physical player with some skill. Probably what Mel is looking for going into the new league. Like he said, they will have to grind it out more and i think some of the recruiting will reflect that. Teams facing Tech in the new WCHA are gonna trap and try to play stingy defense against them.

They might, but you have to build the team to be competitive nationally, and Mankato plays up tempo so to win the league you have to beat them.

I think they will go more for skill guys with a few grinders to keep them honest.( and even then the grinders have to have some good skill) I think they want to dictate things so that we get mismatches in the second and third lines.

I'd like to see us do a better job on the breakout, and defensively, and I'd like to see us be much more consistent as far as focus and ability to play at a high level game in and game out.

agreed. more skill than grit, but nice to have both.

I don't think the new WCHA will stop Mel from going after skilled players. What he's saying is that there will be more opponents in the new league who play a trap/grind system, so they will have to adjust a bit for that. There will also be more opponents with Olympic sheets of ice, so they will also have to plan more often for that transition.

What are people hoping to find out over the course of this off-season?

Top of my head - who will be the third goalie, will we lose anyone early, will Shields be back and hopefully they post some pictures of the new scoreboard once it arrives.

GLI was my favorite for the season. the Winter Carnival win was nice too. am hoping Shields will be back. if he's not back, who will decide who plays in goal?:)

SCSU, and CC are Olympic sheets.
Fade was probably getting confused with the ratio we were looking at before St Cloud left...
