Michigan Tech Offseason 2014: Nothing To Say

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason 2014: Nothing To Say

I agree with Mel that signing a LOI should be moved up a year to avoid uncertainty.

They won't make that change without D1A football and bouncyball's request/approval to make it an NCAA-wide change. Which means it's not happening, so forget it.

I don't know what would be more difficult, getting a special rule for hockey or getting the wholesale change NCAA wide...neither seems likely. I could certainly see hockey pushing for a change in the rule for hockey using the MJ pressure as the reason.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason 2014: Nothing To Say

Looks like the Gazette has decided to end free access in favor of a pay-to-read model. Good luck with that, I'll be getting my news elsewhere.

Yep, that was announced on Twatter this past Monday. Whichever media conglomerate owns all the UP papers switched the electronic versions over to subscription model effective this morning.

Good Luck with that.

The NCAA should simply allow signing at any time during the year. Maybe regardless of age as well. This has been brought up a few times by the football coaches.

Yeah, I can't imagine it making a profit myself. The oldsters who subscribe or buy it from the coin-operated stand will still take their print version, and the Millennials already don't read the news or get it from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert ;), so...

In support of small town news reporters, I'll refrain from copying stories to USCHO. All y'all should probably subscribe immediately.

Because that's going to work. Especially with the smaller sister papers in Escanaba and Iron Mountain.

The Mining Journal flirted with similar almost a decade ago. It lasted a month or two at most. They'll find web traffic numbers dwindling, offer up a story or two for free, find web traffic is stagnet still, then everything will be available once again.

Yeah, I don't care enough about the newspapers where I live to pay for their online content, I'm not going to do it for the UP papers. I can get enough Tech sports info from the various other free websites out there.

I know I milwaukee journal sentinel kinda does this limiting you to 10 free articles a month...I just delete my cookies when I get to that point...I do pay extra for ESPN insider but thats like $20 a year and I "share" that login with a buddy.

That is what the Red Star and Cycle does. The St. Paul paper put so many annoying pop-up ads in to pay for their website that I quit going there too.

My Gazette iPhone app content is no less today than it was previously. But the option is available to get the entire paper online.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason 2014: Nothing To Say

If you're not serving up enough ads to make the paper make money online, it's not going to work...

And shirtless... just use privacy/incognito mode for those sites. No cookies stored... no limits ;)

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason 2014: Nothing To Say

Anybody know what LOI's are coming this season? Have not seen a news release

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason 2014: Nothing To Say

I'm pretty sure he (along with the rest of us) are waiting to see which of the officially committed players will join the team in the fall.
