It's not like the NCAA even remembers that hockey (or most other sports outside of ovalball and bouncyball) even exist. Rather than gentleman's agreements, the players should simply send out a written announcement to all the other D-I coaches when they make their verbal...

I would guess much closer to Fall before we see an "official" posting. I'm sure the coaches are going to see how players show up on campus in the Fall. Best we can hope for in the near future would be a purge of the roster to remove players they know won't be back (seniors, pro signers, etc).

Agreed. 31 is already a lot to start. I think I recall Pearson saying that he prefers 28-29 back during his first year when he was carrying 31-32 just to give everyone who was already there a fair shake. How big is this coming year's senior class? (that's me being too lazy to go look it up myself)

Good question. I also wonder what kind of timeline Mel would like to for a new assistant and when we'll see that announcement.

I don't think it's been posted here yet. But this seems like a decent promotion to get some season tickets sold and get some interaction with locals. I wonder if it's an idea of Mel's as I don't think we did this before Mel, or maybe the athletic department is getting more creative.

Spring Hockey Carnival Event Set for May 31
HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech will host a Spring Hockey Carnival at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena on Saturday, May 31. This free event for the whole family will feature games for kids, opportunities to interact with Huskies coaches and players and door prizes. The day also represents the final chance to purchase Tech season hockey tickets at the discounted price of $225.

The Spring Hockey Carnival will run between 4-6 p.m. with plenty to do. Youth are encouraged to bring their own hockey sticks and play floor hockey. Tech players will run skill sessions, and there may even be a chance to shoot against Huskies goaltenders.

All children will receive a free poster that they can have signed by Tech players. The locker room and other hockey facilities will be open to tour. A bounce house, video games on the arena's big video board and music are also part of the evening.

Season tickets for Michigan Tech hockey purchased by the end of the Spring Hockey Carnival event are $225 apiece—$75 off the regular price of $300. Each season ticket guarantees a reserved seat for all 22 Michigan Tech home dates in 2014-15 (little more than $10 per game).

Sounds like it's basically a spring version of the "Meet the Coaches" events Russell used to run, with some kids' activities thrown in. Plus they can drive sales well in advance of the season.

All of this, of course, has the long-term goal of encouraging local youth players to keep thinking about playing for Tech. So that when one who is good enough for D1 comes along, he's been on the radar for years.

Future Husky, Matt Roy and his Indiana Ice teammates will be playing for the Clark Cup tonight in the deciding Game 5 vs the Waterloo Blackhawks. Roy will be playing on the Huskies' blueline this fall but right now he's trying to go out on top in the USHL.

The list of defenders that will dress will continue to get tougher. Birks and Roy should be top 6 almost from day 1 plus Schuldt will add a physical side. Add them to the class last year and there will be a ton of competition for minutes.

What are the odds Fillion or Davis would transfer at this point? They're both juniors, so I would think it's low, but you never know.
