Sounds like it's basically a spring version of the "Meet the Coaches" events Russell used to run, with some kids' activities thrown in. Plus they can drive sales well in advance of the season.
All of this, of course, has the long-term goal of encouraging local youth players to keep thinking about playing for Tech. So that when one who is good enough for D1 comes along, he's been on the radar for years.
Tech Hockey Radio Remote Set for 7-9 a.m. Thursday
HOUGHTON, Mich. — WKMJ/WMPL Radio will be broadcasting live from the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena Thursday (May 29) from 7-9 a.m. in advance of Saturday's (May 31) Michigan Tech Spring Hockey Carnival.
Host Dirk Hembroff will talk with several guests including Tech hockey players during segments on both WKMJ Mix 93.5 FM and WMPL 920 AM between 7-8 a.m. Then, during the 8 o'clock hour will be a special edition of the Mel Pearson Show.
The main topic of the radio segments will be the Spring Hockey Carnival at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. This free event for the whole family will feature free food, games for kids, opportunities to interact with Huskies coaches and players and door prizes. The day also represents the final chance to purchase Tech season hockey tickets at the discounted price of $225.
Saturday's Spring Hockey Carnival will run between 4-6 p.m. with plenty to do. Youth are encouraged to bring their own hockey sticks. Tech players will run skill sessions, and there will even be a chance to shoot against Huskies goaltenders.
All children will receive a free poster that they can have signed by Tech players. The locker room and other hockey facilities will be open to tour. A bounce house, video games on the arena's big video board and music are also part of the evening.
Season tickets for Michigan Tech hockey purchased by the end of the Spring Hockey Carnival event are $225 apiece. Following the event, tickets revert to their original price of $300. Each season ticket guarantees a reserved seat for all 22 Michigan Tech home dates in 2014-15.

I speculate that Jamie is the new board administrator. Please avoid speculating about people's private lives in this forum. Thank you.
Isn't this speculating about people's private lives in the forum? Is that you Jamie?
Well the team might not be flying, but no way I'm taking a bus. Time to put all those Delta Airlines delayed flight vouchers to use. Trip to Alabama for Turkey Weekend hockey... booked! Who else is in to populate the JMSIA (Deep) South????We'll go to Alabama for 1st time, how will we get there?
With all of flight cancellation out of Houghton lately, probably bus. It's Thanksgiving week, work our way down and then probably a sleeper bus back. 16 hour trip, it was 12 hour to Omaha, not a lot different.

I'll most likely be there. My son lives in Birmingham and goes to UAB so I can visit him at the same time. Huntsville is a solid 12 from Detroit,( I've driven it about 6 times) if you don't stop for anything but gas and drive 70. (except in ohio of course.) flying in to nashville is fairly cheap and not that long a drive, maybe two hours.Same for Birmingham, a little over an hour drive, except at rush hour. If you fly to Huntsville There is a direct from Detroit and from Atlanta as well as I believe, Chicago.
If I was the coach I'd certainly consider flying. The trouble is the airplanes into huntsville are pretty much RJets and they have a small seat inventory and limited cargo space. you could also ship the equipment separately and just fly the people which I'm pretty sure would save money.
Another thing you could do is fly out of Green bay, that way you get a big plane, and go to say nashville or birmingham, also on a big plane, and then drive the last bit. But if you did that you'd have to change planes somewhere.
Pat Mikesch is the front runner to be the next head coach of the Green Bay Gamblers. That could be huge for Michigan Tech.
Nothing yet!Isn't this speculating about people's private lives in the forum?
I speculate that Biddco will be getting a warning or a vacation from "Board" soon.![]()
Did I miss something, what happened to Derek Lalonde? Im not to sure how huge for tech that would be as he is already listed as the associate head coach. I'm not sure how long he's held the associate head coach title but he has been an assistant coach there for the past 4 seasons (I think).
Speed limit in Ohio is 70.
