Michigan Tech Coach Search, Part II: Only We Would Need a Second Thread

Re: Michigan Tech Coach Search, Part II: Only We Would Need a Second Thread

MTU hires Pearson at 250k plus.........Hockey Alums kick into coaching endowment to make it happen (rumor has it at about 2 million dollars pledged from hockey Alums).

Major step by the Huskies......Mel will need to win soon, but first recruit his rear off.
Congrats to Pearson and MTU for stepping UP.

Interesting, he's a LSSU donor.

I love this quote :

“Mel's staying with us,” said Michigan coach Red Berenson, who has been Pearson's boss the last 23 years."

Fogarty or Coghlin? Yeah, not going to happen.
Really, why do you say that!!?!?!?!?!

edit: sorry, that was supposed to be sarcasm. As in, I agree with you. :p

AJ Aiken
Billy Powers
Brian Renfrew
Eric Rud
Ron Forgerty
Tim Couglin

I could see Fogarty being interested, as well as Aiken. There's no chance that it'll be Rud. He was already a WCHA assistant, and left for the Green Bay job. Unlikely that Powers will come along and Mel can certainly do better than Renfrew.

Ron Fogarty will not be an assistant coach at Michigan Tech at any point in the near future.

If Grant Potulny can be a second assistant for the Gophers, there's no reason Cam Ellsworth can't be a second assistant for Tech. He saved a man's life!

I see in the article that the AD wasnt even quoted in the article, just Mroz and Cook.

The President must of had lots to do with Pearsons hiring. Good job Mroz and Cook.

"Michigan Tech is committed to the hockey program," said Tech president Glenn Mroz. "Mel shares our goal of returning the program to national prominence, and I'm confident in his ability to develop a program we can be proud of both on and off the ice.

Looks like Mroz is finally wearing the big boy pants when it comes to hockey. He wouldn't put this quote in a press release without accepting the responsibility for addressing the Perpetual Losing Culture. I'm guessing that means Pearson has unofficial permission to bypass the chain of command as he sees fit which is a good thing in my opinion. Pearson obviously has the maturity, experience, and desire to be the turnaround specialist and he doesn't need anyone standing in his way.

You have an iphone....
Thats what I ended up doing...I was being lazy, since I can read the thread here on my computer at work, but can't click on the link here. I actually can look at twitter at work if I do it right, but I can't click on links.

This is what MTU hockey needs to get out of the PLC and turn into TLC.
