Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

I'm afraid Dirk has spoiled us. He gets in way more words per minute in the play by play that any other college hockey announcers and he does so intelligently and with unmistakable enthusiasm. It shows that he understands the game and knows what's important to call. He chooses to tell high value backstory about players, always gets the names right for the other team and never fails to credit solid play by the other team. I think he just has much higher hockey knowledge and insight than the competition. I particularly like when he's on with Brent Peterson. Unfortunately, I now find most other WCHA broadcasts almost unlistenable and annoying.....and it's Dirk's fault. Outside if Dirk, I think Dave Danis did a nice job for NMU.

All 3 UP schools have quality radio broadcasters.

Dave Danis has a delivery that I'd put this way - if you've got two people going to game (one who's a diehard hockey expert and one who's never been to a game before) and you put Dave between them, he finds a way to bridge the knowledge gap between the level of the fans on either side. And he's never above calling out anyone on either side, I love that.

Bill Crawford has always been on of my personal favorites. His staccato delivery puts me into the rhythm of the game, and his on-the-spot analysis and anecdotes are always insightful. I love the sig line that "aygwm2" on the NMU pages uses from him about the Wildcats - "This is their MO right to the tee: get out shot, get out played, keep hangin' in there, just rope-a-dope it in your own zone, get it up the ice, bang it in and win the game." Crawford in a nutshell.

I've worked with all 3 and always enjoy those nights. But Dirk is still my favorite too.

Boy, do I ever hope that the boys take points off of the Huskies this weekend — I mean, Anchorage plays this weekend and can make up ground with points at Northern, which ... who knows what they'll be like this weekend —*but boy, do I not expect it, even though it seems like both teams have moved towards each other in terms of results over the last few weeks.

I wish that I were there. I hope to be up there in two years when we will return. I also have plans to start doing visiting-team lunches on Saturdays on UAH home weekends for folks coming in from out of town. We'll see.

Mentioned this in the WCHA TV thread... but Tech has actively worked with America One this week on feed quality.

Why?

The live chats from THG last week were edited down to only have comments about the feed and were brought to the appropriate people and spurred some action. While I realize that the Live chat being all about the video feed quality has been a bit annoying (in the sense we have to actually talk about it... ) it has let the video staff know how bad the issues have been. They watch the feed themselves in the production room and have not seen the issues and were surprised to hear so many of us have them. I'll be asking that we keep discussing it in the THG chat and will get a bit of technical info from everyone watching as well so we at THG can continue to help with the video feed issues.

Word is that Neville is a go tonight.

Eick, Heinonen, and Johnstone are likely out.

I would read that as meaning that Patrick Anderson will continue in the lineup, and that Vallis may get another game too.
