Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

If my math is good (Disclaimer: It usually isn't), Northern's win tonight means it is now a 2 team race for the McNaughton

You are correct that bowling green cannot pass MSU and MTU but they can still potentially pass one of them and finish 2nd.

I know Tech is on a streak, but if I recall they had a ten game winning streak going into the last Mankato series. Any chance we could play this series in Alaska?

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

Can't you just call down to the box office and buy them, then pick them up at Will Call? I did that last year at BG and Ferris and it worked great. I believe they had an extra charge, but it wasn't $8.00.

I am not sure if you can or not. I tried to call the Verizon Ticket Office and they are only open until 5:00 P.M. I don't usually have time until late in the evening to deal with these ticket type things. I suppose I should have made time...

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

Will be sitting on pins and railroad spikes until next weekend. Am not going to Mankato, as already going to St. Paul (I hope) and the NCAA regional. As it stands, Tech can finish now worse than second after the NMU sweep of BGSU. So, we need to win and tie the Mavs, and then hope we can sweep Northern, and win the cup. Yeah, I'd like to see that, but more importantly, the final Five and NCAA. The Mavs are a tough team, but we had some difficult times with injuries ourselves, but should be all healed up. Should be two great hockey games. Unfortunately, have to watch on WCHA tv, which is OK, as we live in an area where there are no cable providers, though I am a bit surprised Channel 6 is not carrying it.

And by one of them you mean Tech, assuming BG wins the tie-breaker ;)

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

Tech wins the tie breaker, as they cannot have less wins the BG after tonight. And the number of points is tied. So, Tech finishes no worse than second.

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

All of this assumes Tech loses out, which I don't expect, and BG wins out.

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

Little bit of a difference. We had some injuries. Not now. And the guys who filled in are now very, very good. Should be a great series.

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

With the sweep of BG tonight, Tech finishes in second no matter what. They have the tie breaker.

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

This is going to be 2 hard fought games to gain the edge for the MacNaughton.
Since Mankato saw Tech last, Gould, Pietila, Petan, and Kero have elevated their game.
If we can get big time performances from them and some secondary scoring from guys like Steman, Heinonen, L'Esperance we will have a good chance at a good outcome. We also have a healthier David Johnstone to throw at them.
If Jamie Phillips can play the way he has for the majority of the year, things are looking good for an epic series for us Tech fans....

So if Tech plays two perfect games they have a good chance at winning two games this weekend? No ****?

These 2 teams are too close to each other in talent. Neither will need a perfect game, and regardless, the games are going to be close.

I agree. I was just stating the simple fact that obviously if Tech's top guys play lights out, they get the same type of play (secondary scoring) from their role guys, their goaltender plays well, etc that it will be a good weekend for tech.

Knowles is likely in this weekend. Still not sure on Franklin; they're not going to rush him though. While this series is extremely important, bigger things lie ahead.
