Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

It doesn't help that the school song is pretty lame, and includes a spelling bee of its own.

It is annoying to opposing fan bases and the attempted School song was an embarrassment when they played it.

It does its job very well!

I agree. The Mavs fans love it and it is catchy.

I does really feel like a soccer thing though...

I thought it was just mindless annoying noise, but it does have a much richer history than the Gopher's cute little song. It turns out to be a Muslim worship thing (I guess I didn't know Mankato, MN as well as I thought :p)
The word "olé" itself, being a Spanish interjection thought to be derived from an Arabic invocation of Allah, or the oath والله (w-állah, “by Allah!”) is mostly associated with the bullfighting of last centuries, but also with other sports after the 19th century.[1] It was chanted when individuals seemed to rise above themselves in performance.
The chant is used frequently in football games around the world (for example by the supporters of the Republic of Ireland national football team[2][3]), and can be heard in Montreal Canadiens hockey games when the team is winning.

So many things I could say here, almost all of which will get the thread shut down!
