Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

I think I aged 10 years watching that game. I will take the 1 point seeing how we played.

You have to credit mankato for a lot of Tech's problems, they did very well pinching off the breakout and in their own zone they were real good. I think Tech suffered from not playing good competition for a while now.

A team as good as Mankato deserves better announcers. They embarrassed themselves in one of the premier games of the season. At least the Mankato team didn't. They were everything we expected. Great players...great coaching.....great fans. You could tell the atmosphere there was electric. Now I really wish I had made the drive. Mel will have the boys squared away for tomorrow's game. Please do something about those announcers. They made a really good game hard to watch.

Yes they are pretty pathetic and embarrassing. When I can't make it to the game I watch it on tv, turn down the volume and listen to the local radio station. Much better. Fantastic crowd tonight. Everybody stood for the last 7 minutes of regulation and all of overtime. Haven't seen that in a while in Mankato. Tech fans were extremely loud. Nice job.

like our coach said - Mankato brought its A game and we brought our C game. I hope we can pull together our A game tomorrow and really see who is the better team.

What I don't really care for is when a team says they brought their C game! If you look at the maverick's season, you will see 30+ shots to 20ish shots. Their D is shut down and the offense controls the puck! There may be a reason they didn't play well and that is because the other team didn't let them!

No one is discounting MSU so knock it off, it was obvious that MTU can play better, a lot of that was because MSU brought their a game...
If MTU had lost, we wouldn't have said MTU lost, we would have said MSU outplayed us and deserved to win. You're looking for a fight when he's not trying to pick one...

Let's just say MSU played better, had more quality opportunities, and Tech is happy to get 1 point on the night.

What should he have said? We brought our A game, they controlled the puck and we were lucky to get a tie. What kind of motivation would that have been to play better the next night? I just hope he is right.

Re: Michigan Tech at Minnesota State 2/27-2/28: Who wants the MacNaughton Cup?

I've been expecting Tech to have a bad game for a while now. We have won I think 9 straight? You at some point have bad games and I'm just glad it wasn't in the tournament. Full credit to Mankato.

I wasn't surprised as to the skill of the Mav forwards, but I was surprised at how good the D was. I don;t remember it that good in Houghton.

I didn't think the announcers were terrible. Minnesota has terrible. I liked that they gave credit to Tech, especially in the first, and how they said Tech controlled the second period. I liked how they pointed out a missed icing call which could have hurt us. So overall, yes they missed some pronunciations, but other than that, a lot better than the homers from the goofs.

The part that annoyed me about the announcers was that they were saying that Tech was a clutch and grab and trap team. Anyone who has watched Tech this season could see that that is not the kind of hockey they play. They seemed to think this was the same old Russell coached team.

AHEM. You mean the homers that basically said last night during the MSU-UM game that if MN didn't start doing SOMEthing, ANYthing, they were going to lose the game? That MSU was just stifling MN? And this was in the 2nd period.

If you're going to argue that the Gopher announcers are not homers, you're going to lose.

Those guys are the biggest homers in college hockey. By far. They make fun of the other teams, like they did night before last, and they are not objective at all. They are even worse than the UAH guys.

Ok, then. Whatever you say. They are homers, but they are not as bad as you think they are.

I think part of that is that tech played the game that a lot of teams have been playing against them lately. That game is to slow msu down and part of that is to hold your checks just a bit longer and to get your sticks in front of guys so they can't build up speed. Tech did that to perfection and without really knowing what kind of team tech is, it's easy to make that assumption.

Tech was frustrating msu with the way tech was playing. It's a testament to techs defense. MSU used to play that with min Jutting last few years. it frustrated the heck out mn and their fans/announcers/players hated it. It's not that we were a clutch and grab team, but the plan was to slow them down. That's what msu did and that's what's being done to msu now.

That is a fair assessment. If playing for the McNaughton cup isn't motivation enough, should they be playing anyway?

It was a fantastic game with very little shenanigans, if any. Phillips is a phenomenal goalie, you have forwards that are fun to watch and are a great team!

Here is hoping to another great game tonight.
