You know I was. As I've mentioned maybe 200 or 300 times, MacInnes platooned him. Tony O on Fridays some other dude on Saturday. When I was working for KLZ, we beat him on Friday then I got to interview him between periods on Saturday. I was a bit apprehensive. He was terrific.

During quiet moments in the Arena, there was some guy in the stands with a bullhorn. And in a mocking voice would say: "Esposito is a tuna." Everyone in the building had to hear it. Tony never batted an eye.

One last Tech-related annecdote (another moldy oldie): During a first round game at the '69 NC in the Broadmoor, I was behind the Cornell net, really giving it to Dryden, wanting an all WCHA final. Called him every name in the book. Learned later the guy standing next to me was his dad. He never said a word. Tech lost that game, of course. But DU won the title.

Re: Michigan Tech at Denver - Friday 10/26/12

My father has an uncanny ability to call me right when DU games start. So, I missed quite a bit of the first period here, but from the parts I caught things look promising including the 1-0 lead. That's a good omen, especially considering some of the Techsters were debating how many goals they'd beat DU by (they were thinking two or three depending on the competency of the poster). Anyway, so far so good.

Esposito and the "other dude"--have to guess he didn't have a successful NHL career. He probably became an engineer and was responsible for the space shuttle or the moon landing;)

Little Mermis' first interview. Has Jarrod,"Unleash", ever gotten one?

DU had trouble holding onto passes. Sam was superb. A few adjustments and DU will be fine.

Yeah, Tony just went on to multiple Vezinas and was considered the best goalie in the NHL for several seasons. The other guy I just can't recall. He was a fine goalie, just not in Tony's league.*

I don't recall "Unleash" ever being probed between periods.

*Of course the goalie against whom all other goalies are compared (at least in Chicago) is Glenn Hall. The guy has some utterly sick record of over 500 consecutive starts. I'll mention again the time we were watching some Stanley Cup highlights in the hotel in the Twin cities. After a particularly unconscious, brilliant, other worldy save by Hall, Buddy Blom made the guy running the projector show it over and over and over again.

Oxymoron alert: "Competent Tech posters."
