Michigan Tech 2018-19: Who Cares What They Name It, We Want It

Re: Michigan Tech 2018-19: Who Cares What They Name It, We Want It

I want to emphasize. I love our coach and his staff. I think they do excellent work. I especially like how players develop while they are here, which is in contrast to a lot of eastern schools. I'm looking forward to many years of success for us.

Listened to the JSH and someone must have told coach something that got under his skin. For me, I would rather have a coach be honest and say what he is thinking then guarded and we get no information. If that means the occasional religion/politics comment or coming across as stern, I'm fine with it.

I like the coach, coaching staff, team, and direction they are going.

A few weeks of burning momentum can do wonders for the Husky team. The boys get a fire burning once the post season calls. Hopefully we see strong and hard plays out there these next two series and leave the desperation at home. Did you all see recent MTU grad Joel L'Esperance got the NHL call up to the Dallas Stars last week. Given the opportunity and making the best of it. Go Huskies!

Getting swept on the weekend could have done all that. Really needed those points.

I see this as a young team learning. What I hope I do not see is a team that only gets good once every four years.

Just my opinion but We were hurt by the turmoil about mel leaving. I had it from friends of mine for two years before he actually left and i'm sure recruits were being told it. "Coach P isn't staying there and you should consider us( insert big school name here) instead."
Also we had the total over- recruiting fiasco that will take some time to work it's way out of the system.
I think once that is cleaned up, and it is well on it's way, you'll see a sustained flow of top players into Houghton.

Aside from the staff, which is top notch really, we have a unique local hockey culture. It's very rare elsewhere. As a player you can't walk fdown the street in Houghton or Hancock without being recognized. I think that's tell a lot about the local support for hockey.

I agree but there is still enough talent on this team to be better than .500. I honestly think this team could be top 10 nationally if they played up to that skill level consistently. That's what having a lot of young guys playing a lot of important minutes gets you.

Hopefully they learned this season and it pays off next year.

That being said, three are no freshmen in February.

I like this team!

Re: Michigan Tech 2018-19: Who Cares What They Name It, We Want It

We blew some points earlier in the season that we really really need now. I'd say our chances for home ice are nil. That, from a personal stand point really bugs me because 1) I wanted to see the team play again 2) I wanted to go to Houghton and see all the snow. I don't want to go to Marquette and see all the snow. I don't want to go to Marquette period.

Re: Michigan Tech 2018-19: Who Cares What They Name It, We Want It

Projecting out.

Current Standings
47 BGSU
47 LSSU
44 Bemidji
44 NMU
37 Tech
31 Alaska

BGSU at Bemidji - split
MnSt at Alaska - Mavs sweep
UAA at Tech - Huskies sweep
LSSU at NMU - split

Updated Standings based on results
50 BGSU
50 LSSU
47 Bemidji
47 NMU
43 Tech
31 Alaska

UAH at BGSU - Falcons sweep
FSU at LSSU - Lakers sweep
Bemidji at MnSt - Mavs sweep

With those factors, that would mean that the Huskies would need 5 points in the final weekend to secure home ice.

Four points would create a 3 way tie in which Bemidji holds the head-to-head over both Tech and NMU. Tech would win the head-to-head with NMU and finish 5th. BGSU wins the tiebreak with LSSU with one fewer conference loss. Obviously the scenarios change with different results, your mileage may vary.

Mel certainly made no secret about how much he loved Houghton and it was his alumni school and he intended to retire from Tech. To the fans anyway. But somewhere deep down, you got the feeling that was all dog and pony show. I guess we can't blame him, he did get the program back on its feet, his family is in Ann Arbor, I am sure lots of friends, its familiar, he no doubt got a very nice pay bump. I wonder if people in WalMart in Ann Arbor stop and want to talk hockey with him.

At first I thought: Marv would never go to Walmart.

Then I figured he has to get his Skunkhead clothes somewhere.

I hate to sound bitter (she said bitterly) but he was such a nice guy and such a good coach and recruiter and **** it!! I wish he had not left.

He did good things for MTU hockey. And in his own words he "left the program better than he found it". I appreciate that.

But recruiting-wise he left a mess for Joe to clean up. And he blew smoke up every Husky fan's arse knowing he would leave as soon as Red was done. And #3 the Skunkheads are my 60th favourite team in the NCAA.

FYI, there are no big box stores in the People's Republic of Ann Arbor. The A2 liberals won't allow them. There's a big Wal-Mart in Saline and a whole row of big box stores on Carpenter Road in Ypsilanti, just outside of the PRA2 city limits. AND all of the sales tax revenue goes to Saline and Ypsi.

To your point, I remember an article in the A2 News years ago about a professor handing back exams in his class and when he got to one student, he said, "Congratulations". The other students wondered what that was about. The Michigan Hockey team had just won the National Championship and the student was one of the hockey players...

That last year he was tipping his hand that he wasn't going to be at Tech much longer and the program would go on without him.

He did leave what we would call a recruiting mess, but look at the U of MI's recruiting list now. It is a cluster. By his standards, he left the recruiting cupboard bare.

There's the key point... just telling people what they want to hear.

Moving on to the business at hand. It seems like we just did this, but I didn't create the schedule. Six points, nothing less!
