Really needed 3 pts. Mel wasn't as negative as I thought he'd be. Odd game with being down mostly. Then all the penalties. And the flukey goal off the glass and off Redmonds back and in.

Mel's postgame with Dirk:
First period was tough. UAH was ready to play. We need to be better.
We kept coming back. We had some luck.
Thought at 2-2we were in good shape.
Our players battled and got the extra point.
Angus had some good saves early. He usually has that fourth goal
We have to work on shootouts. Getting to close into the goalie. Points are important.
Big games at bemidji. Wanted to be 3 points back.

Gritty performance at times, poor performance at others. I am glad we got the extra point but we shouldn't have needed to go that far. That said UAH looks better than I have seen them before.

Don't get it; the best FO% is held by 11 followed by 20, 25 then 15. 20 was in the stands. Was he hurt? Why not let 11 take the draws and 6 manage the rest of the center duties or how about just trying 11 as a center. The others aren't exactly setting the world on fire.

My understanding has always been that they don't fly commercial from CMX, due to all the baggage they have. So unless they chartered (unlikely), probably GRB.

That would only make sense, I believe 11 played center up until he came to tech. We will never understand.....

I'm good with whatever line up the coach puts out. I figure he has a lot more knowledge than me on the details.

However, I looked at that game as a loss. I thought we played badly. Yes we got better but giving up all those goals even after we tied it, I though we got what we deserved and I also thought we would have learned by now about the dangers of playing this way.
Every time we have the chance to move up in the pairwise, we mess it up. I find it really FRUSTRATING.
I think the pp is getting better, but it still needs work. as far as three on three, if you look, some of the NHL teams are now going out there with two defensemen, ( Ottawa) and they are getting a man and shadowing him very carefully.
We have to be better when we do get a good chance, of putting it in the net.

It is sometimes easy to go by stats alone. We aren't on the team and know what goes on behind closed doors. Maybe some of the choices are because of disciplinary action or someone who is not giving it their all when the coaching staff sees that a certain player could play better. That is where sports becomes a learning tool.
Some of the blame can be put on the athlete, and if honest with themselves, a player would tell you that. It is easy to sometimes point fingers.

All the teams in the standings are fighting for these end of season points. It is gut-check time as to which teams want the points more.

Just stop worrying about the pairwise, it's not going to happen. Sure they could be better, in the lower 20s but there are .400 points behind 12th, they aren't getting an at large.

I think you have to trust in tMel. He still believes strongly in this team you heard it all year. One other thing you heard all year is the mental toughness component that tMel keeps talking about having that right attitude. I don't think you can gauge that in a team until a season is in play.

A few notes from Mel's show this morning. The biggest being the team got caught up in Delta's computer issues yesterday.

Team is still not home - people wonder why Mel likes to bus, not because he's not a fan of flying, but you can control more
Some wont get home until 8PM tonight, team was on delta, and the whole system shutdown
Mel rode the bus back with the equipment because he doesn't like asking others to do something he wouldn't do, so rode the long bus ride, but he was in Houghton and the rest of the team is not
Some guys in Nashville, some in Minneapolis, some had to be up at 6AM after a long day waiting in airport, mess with sleep routines etc, Mel's not happy

Mel was pretty positive to enjoy this team and this run (in league play), last league loss was December, before that early October

Last time we played Bemidji we had the long trip back from AK, another long trip before Bemidji this weekend

Gould is day to day, didn't finish the game Saturday, will reevaluate him whenever he gets home

2nd time in 5.5 months, but at least it didn't affect ops for an entire week this time. I got where I needed to be today, but had to wrestle with the website to print a paper boarding pass, and the app is just now returning to normal function. I am not a happy camper, but AAL and UAL are worse, so...?

Hope the guys have made it back by now.

Delta was warned about this issue several years ago and chose to put a band-aid on it instead of fix it because of the cost.

Face it, we're a one-bid league this year. Who are you going to beat that's going to vault you up in the standings? Enjoy the ride. You're in a good position for the MacNaughton and/or Broadmoor, and winning either makes it a special year. Forget about the rest of it.

Hobey fan voting has started. Great to see Redmond on there but I am amazed that none of the MTU D-men made the list. Tech has got to have several of the best in the country!

Tech's path to the NCAA tourney is a fairly skinny one, but it is well within Tech's grasp. Time to start the tourney checklist. Tech has 18 possible conference points yet to gain. Obviously these numbers can come down with key losses by other teams. (I'm looking at you Beavers!) Sure would be nice to lock up home ice for the first round on Friday night.
