Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

Does anyone know the GLI invites beyond next season (BGSU)?
No I heard a rumor about LSSU, but that's what it was, a rumor.
The coach did say today that ASU would be coming to Houghton and ND and Duluth. He also said that they were working on wisconsin but that due to the expansion of the b1g they were not going to come in next year, though we were going there the year after.
If the icebreaker is next year that would be 8 non con games not including any GLI games. I believe we open up against Union, and I'm very happy to say that Vechionne will be graduating. I hope Spencer Foo leaves too.
He also said Baltus is coming along but not out of the woods and unlikely for the rest of the season and that Steman is slower than they thought and might not be back.
I believe the person asking the question about injuries was Mike Corbet, but don't quote me. I just listened. It could have been Scott Sandelin.

Baltus was blood clots correct? Do we know what Steman's injury was? Any chance we could get either of the two for an extra year on a medical redshirt?

Clots are the suck for a normal person - personal experience. I cant imagine how antsy he must be as an high level athlete.

He did not say ND or Duluth would be in Houghton next season, the only thing he confirmed was that ASU in Houghton.

I have the Icebreaker plus the Alaska Double so MTU could play 12 NC games next season if they want to.
I believe Home vs UMD will be 2018-19. The home series with UW and ND are some point in the future...hopefully sooner than later.

No word on if MTU will continue to play Michigan and Mich St outside of GLI. in the last year, Mel has mentioned possible series with Union, SCSU, UNO, and UND on top of whats listed above.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

I heard the same thing, ASU next year in Houghton. He mentioned ND and UMD should be coming to Houghton, but it didn't sound like it was next year.

A few other notes from Mel Pearson show:
Talked to Dmen on Saturday - really believe they can be the best D group in the country and they don't realize how good they can be, they set the tone for Saturday

Health update:
L'Esperance was back, used him sparingly, looked fine/good, he'll get some time to get better this week, looks OK to make the trip
Brice got dinged pretty good - will be out for awhile, maybe a 2 week deal
Erik Pederson has left the team, came in last week and didn't see himself in the lineup in the near future, already played in Ontario Sat., got an assist
Roy - will find out more this week
Baltus - probably done for the year, has been cleared, no more blood clots, but on blood thinner
Steman - Hasn't gone as well as we thought it would, not sure he'll get back this year

Anyone you're considering for a redshirt - Baltus/Steman maybe? Brice - typically can't redshirt if play after Christmas but it was 3 minutes if it's needed we could pursue.
Todd Kiilunen has not played yet, but looks extremely good, competes so hard in practice, makes us better, he's a redshirt candidate

Other schedule notes: Doesn't have 18-19 WCHA schedule yet, so hard to plan non-conference. Had UW scheduled, but with B1G reworking schedule due to ND, that'll have to be rescheduled.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

I could be wrong, but I doubt we will ever see LSSU invited to the GLI. Also would not be surprised if NMU does not get invited back. They couldn't even throw together a band last time.

I have a feeling it will be BGSU, FSU, WMU rotation for awhile. I doubt MSU or MIch have much interest in PSU or OSU.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

Tech definitely has an uphill battle to get the top seed. With 8 games left, they have to win I'd say 7 games to get a tie, assuming Bemidji gets 4 wins on the final three conference series. Bemidji has 2 with Mankato and Tech and two @ Huntsville. So if they split the first two and sweep the third one, I'd say they are in good shape. However, if Tech sweeps them, then all bets are off.
It should be really interesting. I'd be rooting for Bemidji to win a few at the NSC, but at this point I don't think it makes any difference in the leagues power numbers.

It is certainly up hill but the next two weeks will tell just how steep it is...can have the lead before the super bowl if they get 4 wins over the next 2 weeks.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

If Tech doesn't have four more wins two weeks from now, I think we can kiss the Cup goodbye. I have to assume that Tech is going to lose at least one or maybe even two games out of the final four. Northern might be in last place, but I'm sure they would love nothing more than to screw over Tech's season by handing them a loss the final weekend, especially if Northern is locked OUT of the playoffs by the time they meet. And with Northern's schedule (BGSU, MSU, MTU, UAF) there is a very good chance they will be more than 6 points out of 8th place when that final weekend vs the Huskies arrives.

So what's there to do in Huntsville, I'm by myself all day Saturday and wouldn't mind hitting up something cool, I know there's a lot of NASA related stuff, any museums to check out or anything, I think that would be really interesting.

I need to find that long post that I wrote a while back. That said, the US Space & Rocket Center is really nice (especially the Saturn V hanging horizontally in the Davidson Center), and if you go out to NASA MSFC, I can meet your tour there and talk about what we do for payload support. I do sometimes crash the tours, but usually only when I'm working a day shift on the weekend. I'd also meet up with you (and anyone else) at USSRC.

The Rocket Center definitely sounds like a winner, will have to hit that up for sure.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

Wow, another stellar performance on the "Inside the WCHA" web show.

In the first set of highlights, we've already seen clips from Tyler Hy-nonen, Chris Jerry, and (my personal favorite) Agnes Redmond. And how do you pronounce Gillies "Jill-eez"? I should mention that Gavin Gold assisted on that play too. Let's not forget Mitch Rine-key scoring a goal either. You couldn't mispronounce more names if you tried to intentionally. Great job talking over half your soundbite too.

Two more candidates for the "Boom Goes the Dynamite" award.

In the NMU/UAA clip he blew it on NMU #25 Phil Beaulieu. It's Bah-loo, not Bo-lio!

What an embarrassing production. Internet videos don't need intros or segues or any other type of fluff, but this show has it in spades. Some of the episodes haven't even reached 100 views. Why does this show even exist?

I might be able to excuse the miss on Gus Correale of LSSU. But when you blow Defiel too...maybe these kids just have it in for the UP schools?
