Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Except that Tech has #4 SoS according to USCHO as well. Higher than NoDak (10) and BU (15). If you want to save face and rank Minnesota ahead of us because they have the #1 SoS, fine, except you would be hard pressed to do so given their recent effort. So again, I'm really trying to understand your logic, but finding it difficult to follow.

The last thing I would check 10 games in is the computer generated SOS. Means nothing. Just like looking at the Pairwise now is premature

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

I like that you are all currently being trolled by Alabama's mascot.

That, and (especially considering it's Tech), Tech has done what a good team should do: beat weaker opponents. It's science.

Because your "completely subjective how I feel" stregth of schedule method is much more accurate.

And, I hope there is a big element of truth to that statement, says UNO fan whose team is 6-1-1 against 5-13-2 competition.

So then it's based on past seasons history, bias about "weaker" conferences, "Eastern biases", "Powerhouse programs" biases and everything else that has nothing to do with the actual landscape currently. Oh, I know, how many more NCAA tournament teams are we supposed to beat this year before we get rid of the "prove it" moniker? Guess you want to wait until Mankato, UMD and the GLI (wait, no credit for that), Wisconsin....(nope, no credit for that).......hmmmm.......

Ah, now I get it......means nothing, like your logic and your poles. :D
This is fun. Bring me another Smurf! :)

Are you positive? I was going to track this down, but if you're sure...

1976 is correct. From December 1975-March 1976, Tech was No. 1 for all but one week in the WMPL poll.

The closest Tech had come until yesterday was in October 1980 and October 1984 when they were ranked No. 2 in the WMPL.

In 1977-78, they had been in and out of the top 4 and finished the regular season ranked 4th. In 1980-81, Tech finished the regular season ranked No. 3.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Wow you guys really get upset over someone knocking on your parade. Enjoy the day you become the #1 ranked team in the country, not some low life like me knocking your SOS ;)

I was actually thinking about this going to work today, my guess out of the blue was 1972.

I think I would check a computer generated SOS and PWR before your opinion.

Help Shirtless Guy out and give him your access/link to the WMPL archives.

Guys, BigAl is a business major at Quinnipiac, so we can forgive him for not knowing much. He is pretty good at playing the role of an above-the-fray pot-stirrer, though.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

A fun day yesterday, my only complain was the use of the piano dog on the poll section of USCHO.com. Good to see the NCAA pic of the top 10 use the Huskies script, I wish it was all we used.

A couple side notes: Mel will be on USCHO live tonight at 7 I think.

Interesting to see Michael-Lee Teslak tweet, @teslak29, that he's very shocked they're #1, as it seems he doesn't follow the team at all. Figured alumni would at least follow it a little bit. Is he out of hockey?

This doesn't surprise me. Some guys do follow their old team pretty fervently, others cut the cord and treat it like some of us treat our early jobs: yeah we were there, but we've moved on.

And, look at the culture of the program when he was there. He put up some good numbers, but was lucky to be .500 in wins.

A lot has changed in the last few years, for the better, and it's great to see the program rebound.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Well, three out of four aren't bad.

Preliminary math on the PWR has had Tech as #1 for two weeks.
USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey both rank Tech as #1.

Buccigross on the other hand:

And that slappy has seen exactly how many of those 10 teams this season? Go work on another hokey catchphrase for your 4 games of college hockey you'll do in March, Bucci.

To be fair, I've been following the team and I'm shocked they're #1.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

My biggest issue with the coverage of Tech's rise to #1 is the phrase "first-ever number one ranking." It completely discounts the history of the program. The reality is that both the USCHO poll and USA Today poll didn't exist until fairly recently in college hockey's history.
