Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

I didn't mean to derail this thread with that earlier comment, but as it's only Tuesday...

Geez. The B1G is claiming 23 titles and 68 FF's??? Not sure who to believe now...

Hang on...

Ok... So I just added up all the titles won by various conference iterations and it comes to 762 National Championships.

So no worries! Turns out there are plenty for everyone! (even Atlantic!)

Does the Big Ten count Maryland's basketball title or not because they weren't part of the conference when they won it? The total is either whatever was won by teams when they represented a given conference (the 37 for WCHA, 0 for NCHC, 0 for B1G) or its a compilation of titles won by current member institutions, not some bastardization of both. We like to count everything won by member schools, its not our fault you idiots thought you'd be better off outside the WCHA umbrella? How's that working out for you so far?

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Yup, that would never have happened in the old WCHA...

Oh...the Old WCHA... you mean the one with DU, UND, MN, WI and all their titles? Well yes, I suppose it would have.

The only reason I commented on this thread was because Broseph made the (however tongue in cheek) comment that winning the current WCHA is tougher than winning a NC and used the # of titles won by the conference as evidence for that. One thing has little to do with the other anymore. Even before the breakup if you go by titles won, a case can hardly be made that it's been true in the last decade.

Having said that, count all the titles you want, doesn't bother me in the least and I'd love to see MTU add to the total.

I understand why you felt the need to come in here regardless of your motives, I mean who wants to talk about Badger hockey right now?

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

In regard to the number of championships won by a given conference, I do think the logical thing to do is associate them with the conference that won them, not the team. Do a large degree, the WCHA won so many championships because they put so many teams in the tourney over the years. Heck, one year the entire Frozen Four was WCHA teams. Some conferences have never even put four teams in the tourney. The large number of WCHA teams that got into the tourney was due to the strength of schedule which was due to the make-up of the WCHA and its member teams.

A few years ago if you had two or three teams that finished with great records in the WCHA, they were likely to ride the WCHA's reputation into the tourney. However you take those same three great records and put them in a lesser conference you don't get all three teams in the tourney because they played a season's worth of cupcake in-conference games and as a result their great W-L record is not regarded as highly.

Even if the ECAC or CHA had three teams with 25 wins, I doubt the tourney would have ever had three ECAC or CHA teams at once. Even when Tech sucked and finished 10th or 12th year after year, no one really overlooked another WCHA team or took wins for granted. Upsets happened pretty much every weekend in the conference because the WCHA was strong top to bottom when compared with other conferences.

So when you look at is in that manner, the conference to a large degree is what won the titles so I see no reason to not associate them with the WCHA moving forward, even if the team that won the title has departed.

Everyone on here knows, B S is an... umm, not to be believed.... so disregard what he says and you will be ahead.

Last week it was a Minnesota fan, this week a Wisconsin fan. I can't help it if they think I'm serious.

I was just highlighting the fact that the conference is doing well against non conference opponents. I made fun of Michigan and Wisconsin. I challenged Donald Lucia to take a shot at Tech in Houghton. It's early in the week so I'm bored.

Start a Bemidji thread and I'll leave the big 10 alone.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Random fact of the day. With Al Renfrew on my mind (R.I.P.), I looked at Tech's winningest coaches of all time and it turns out during the series vs. Michigan Coach Pearson tied (Friday) and surpassed (Saturday) with the 6th most wins in program history. If this team keeps playing at this high of a level all season he could easily knock Russell off for #2 by the end of the season.

Cool! Can Coach Pearson ascend into the top spot by next year? Who's #1 anyway?

Honestly, it's a good reminder of how bleak it was for so long and how good this season feels. Stay hungry guys!

Huskies #1!

You are my favorite Michigan Tech fan ever.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Can someone smarter than I explain why KRACH has MTU at #35 while Pairwise and RPI both have Tech at #1??

It appears that KRACH isn't even worth being posted...

Oh for Christ's sake.

I give up.

We have these kinds of posters now (again).
