Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Listening to the MP Show, Dirk says pasty.net is down due to power outage: youse guys will have to catch the archived version later.
Mel did mention that E. Anderson has been sick all year and is currently down with mono. Blacklock is recovering from knee problems.

Ah, so that's what it was... Listening now.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Mel makes a good point about Bemidji's SOS; I have a feeling they'll be a top 3 WCHA team and likely challenge for all 4 points this weekend.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

We got rid of a lot of dead weight when we realigned the WCHA.
I think even the casual observer can see why we couldn't have a team like Wisconsin in the same conference.
I would love to share your view, but that would make us "like-minded" and that is what we just shed from the conference so no reason to let it creep back into the WCHA at this point. I will just say that many others may have similar, yet unique, opinions on this subject.

That was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. You might say that after twenty years of being mocked by the self-styled hockey elite, this season has been very enjoyable to date. Wisconsin's trip to Alaska was hysterical. They're likely to drop 8 games to the WCHA this year. I especially enjoy seeing any wins against the NCHC teams, you know, the "like-minded" ones. Hopefully UAH has a little something for omaha.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Michigan Tech at 8-0-0 now the 8th most wins in a season (tied with 5 other seasons) since 1995-96 (19 seasons).

I think you missed his /sarcasm tags... :)

Assume it at all times with.... most of us here... Chances are it's what is happening :)

safe bet, especially regarding the NaCHos.

seriously, its funny that these so called like minded, elite ADs and coaches dont seem to get a given in sports. programs change. once elite teams will fail. losers will rise. and on and on goes the cycle.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

did anyone mention this? Tech has tied their best start in history. one more to set the record.

Pretty sure Shirtless did on Saturday night after the W. :)

I need to double check my year by year data but I'm pretty sure this is the best start Michigan Tech has ever had, no more qualifiers of "since 19##." They have never started 9-0

I believe that the last time the Huskies won 9 in a row at any point in a season was at the tail end of the 1980-81 campaign.

W 5-3 @ North Dakota 21 Feb
W 5-4 @ Michigan 27 Feb
W 5-2 @ Michigan 28 Feb
W 7-4 vs North Dakota 6 Mar WCHA Playoff Rd 1
W 4-1 vs North Dakota 7 Mar WCHA Playoff Rd 1
W 2-1 vs Michigan 13 Mar WCHA Playoff Rd 2
W 7-1 vs Michigan 14 Mar WCHA Playoff Rd 2
W 7-3 @ Providence 20 Mar NCAA Playoff 1st Round
W 6-5 @ Providence 21 Mar NCAA Playoff 1st Round

The streak ended on 26 March at the Final Four in Duluth when Minnesota beat Tech 7-2 in the national semifinal. They would go on to beat NMU 5-2 for 3rd place in the last game that Mel Pearson skated in as a Husky.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

So here is my little and uninformed critique of the long range plan for the Mac. It was partially released by shirtless a couple of years ago. According to what he said, there are no plans for additional permanent seats. instead an area for Temporary seats would be put up, and only for bigger games. Most of the time the seating capacity would stay the same.

I'm against that. I think if the attendance is really going to be in the neighborhood of 3000+, you need at least 500 additional permanent seats, plus an area for some folding chairs on top of that. I'd also like to see the bathrooms expanded, which I think the plan does, as well as significantly enhanced food service, and a mirror image of the suites on the west end, placed on the east wall as well.

I believe in many cases, even with 500 additional seats, those will be filled and another 1000 standees admitted.
I can see this happening, several times per year.

1. when a big time program comes to houghton, one weekend per year.
2. during carnival.
3. during visits by teams close to us in the standings,
4. NMU games
5. any home playoff contests.

so overall that could be up to 10 games where we see significantly more than 3000.

I don't think 500 additional seats is that big a deal, except that it will require a re write of the plan.
