Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

If you had told me at the begining of the New WCHA that the fan rivalry between Bowling Green and Michigan Tech would have more vitrol to it than the recent MTU/NMU rivalry, I would have laughed.

Boy the playoffs do spur some silly rivalries, doesn't it?

Sidenote: I miss the old "Tootsie Roll" BGSU road jerseys...

Rivalry? Not really. It takes something interesting to happen on ice to build a rivalry, not simply a couple trolls posting in the other team's thread on USCHO. I have nothing against Bowling Green, I just now know that a few of their fans are complete D-bags.

Actually now that you mention it I would have never bet the UP would have been shutout of GR.
A real shame for the first year.
We all need to do better next year.
Tech has the scorers on the way plus the senior and junior class ready to lead the way for the first time since Peter Rouleau (Brett Olson more recently)
I think they will make a marked improvement next year.

The only guy on this roster who might have Olson's leadership potential thus far is Eick. However, I expect Pietila (if he stays) and Kero to be wearing Cs next year. To be fair, Blake really toned it down after Jan 1 - if you omit the NMU game in Marquette, he held himself to 16 total PIMs in 17 of the final 18 games.

Ahhh, it's so fun to flip the bozo bit.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

First happy St Paddy's day. This time last year I was in Dublin and I wish I were there now.( and no, not Dublin Ohio, geesh!)

Let me say first to our BG friends. I don't think anyone is disrespecting you or your team. You upped your game at the right time of year. However, ... one guy came into our thread and said how rotten our band was on friday and how they sounded so HS etc. This is not something said to win friends and influence people. Heck we had a pep band at two places. You didn't even have a band. Another guy said how dumb we Michiganders are. Really? Typical Ohio. So It would be better if you had a series thread. Much better.

Also some brilliant Ohian, came in here and said how much he'd prefer to play Miami or WMU rather than us. Well here's a clue to you guys. They don't want to play you.! Not only do they not want to play you, they actively tried to throw you under the bus. Now you are ****ed and whine for them? Really? And you say we are dumb?!.

Now not to complain, but I don't like watching your team BG. Overall, defensive hockey is boring to me. I much prefer watching Les Habitants, rather than the Devils. I didn't like how much stick work your team did or how they grabbed our guys to prevent them from doing something without the puck. I think it's bush. Course I don't like NMU or Ferris or Bemidji either, but I particularly don't like you. I think next year this will be much nastier series.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Whoever that idiot was will have his wish next year since Miami is on our schedule. We will also be playing OSU every year, so I hope he likes that, too.

FWIW, nobody threw us under the bus. We had options that we wanted to weigh before making a decision, but that's another story. WMU's choice was a kneejerk reaction that many there regret, given the even steeper travel costs than the WCHA.

As for our type of hockey? Not sure what you mean because the time in the offensive zone seemed pretty even to me, especially in the second game. If we're just supposed to sit back and watch you skate around us, sorry to disappoint you because that's kind of stupid. Your team has a little bit more speed than ours, that was obvious, therefore we do what we can to slow you down, that's also obvious. It's also obvious that it worked, so I'm not going to complain.

And if you look again, some of us also tried to say good and positive things in your thread. I know, because I said them. And I'll say them again.

for starters, I expressed polite appreciation for the invite to the GLI. not like it's never happened before, but last time was...1984. I know you all are disappointed that BC can't make it every year...sorry, can't help you there.
I believe your program has a bright future, and said so.
I enjoyed seeing the tuba players join the BG band for 'hey baby', and said so. do I think that the band was drum-heavy, burying the melody? yep. but it was great they were there, especially on Friday when our band was playing @MAC hoops tournament in Cleveland.
I did correct you on your comment on the so-called FU chant. we aren't U of M (or even Ferris), our student section doesn't get that ugly.
But you're right, our barn isn't pretty.

I understand that one guy yanked your chains--not a bright thing to do.
I also understand that you guys had high expectations, and really don't like losing. never mind, you'll be back.
Even after all the *****iness, this BG fan doesn't have anything against Tech. au contraire--the wcha needs good programs, and tech is a good program.

I thought friday's game was one of the most entertaining games I saw all season. both sides dished out a lot of grit, but it was disciplined. saturday wan't quite as clean, but we'll take it.
best wishes in the nWCHA.
