Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

I suggest a very rage-filled thread title.

That's a good start. Gives next year's team something to rally around.

I'm thinking more along the line of 'Michigan Tech Huskies: Will a way to win be found before Malaysian 370?'

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

That's all I have but I don't want to look like too much of a d-bag, lol.

I'll start it. I just need some ideas.

Michigan Tech Offseason: May As Well Just Quit At This Point
Michigan Tech Offseason: More Fail than an Amanda Bynes Psych Test
Michigan Tech Offseason: Fans Perpetually Searching For New Bandwagons

I kinda really like that last one.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Michigan Tech Offseason: Where the Hietala do we go from here?
Michigan Tech Offseason: Will we ever get out of this Vallis?

Extremely lame I know, but so am I.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Playing a brutal schedule (non-conference) to start the season really helped....yeah right. The Huskies dug themselves into too early of a hole to start the season. The talent just isn't there right now to be playing the likes of Michigan and Notre Dame in the rebuilding process. You have to learn to walk before you can run as the saying goes. A lot of playing sports is your frame of mind. I think Tech bit -off more than they could chew and it cost them all season. Losing breeds losing. It will be interesting to see next year's schedule and where we go from here.

I couldn't agree more. All those non-conference road games in the fall hamstrung the entire season. I hope whoever arranged that gets a severe beating.

Definitely agree, this team needed confidence, not so many difficult games.

What a disappointing end to a disappointing season.

What he said.

I'll be over it by tomorrow.

It's tomorrow and I'm not over it.

Dirk and Mel were talking about the progress we've made this season but I have to ask, WHAT PROGRESS?? We can't beat anyone even halfway decent and lose games to teams that are not even that.

Mel's first year we swept Wisconsin, split with Minnesota, split with St. Cloud, beat and tied Denver, swept Colorado on the road in the 1st round of the play-offs and went to the Final 5. Tech was 16-19-4 overall.

This year we are 14-19-7 overall. It was pointed out that Tech is over .500 in the nWCHA. Progress? Not this year.

That team also had senior leadership that the past two teams have lacked.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

I've ben thinking about why it is that I'm more disappointed this year, and I think it has to do with the new league changeover. I felt like we would be more competitive here. I don't think I gave credit to the other teams for all doing much the same thing as us. Trying real hard to be better. Nor did I give them credit for being reasonably good. Especially the ccha teams who I looked at as sub standard.

Second, I think getting where we want to be is a very inexact science and it takes infinite patience, something I particularly lack.
Bob Mancini left in part, because he felt like we as a fan base had unrealistic expectations.
Certainly it's hard, but I think we do have a very bright future and it's going to have it's up's and downs all the way along.
I like our recruits and I really feel like we will be better in the years to come. Though this year was real tough. I feel for the players too.
one more thing, the negativity sometimes affects others( liek potential players) in ways we would not like.

This is a great post that all nWCHA fans should read. I think there was a perception of 9 of the 10 fanbases that "We don't have the big school, big money teams like MN/MI/NoDak, etc., to kick us around anymore. We're going to dominate!" Heck, we just finished 20-7-1 in the conference, and I thought we'd do better than that! We'd never been close to that in conference before. What was I thinking?

There are opportunities out there, but it's still tough to win at the D1 level, and to win big every year is almost impossible. But I do think Tech has talent, and next year should be fun to watch, just like this year was in the conference. But maybe after this year, we'll all have a little more realistic expectations.

Tech has a very bright future, no doubt about it.

you know, we had a troll over on BG's AZZ boards who was harping about how BG's season was a failure and that Bergeron should be fired because BG wasn't dominating in the cream-puff nWCHA. insane expectations and--like purpleinnebraska said--9 out of 10 schools probably came in with some of that kind of delusion going on.

the final five is two from the CCHA and two from the oWCHA. I wish UAF had given the CCHA a third, lol, but hats off to Anchorage.
It's far from a cream-puff conference, and with programs like Tech's...it's only going to get better.

btw, one of the highlights of Saturday's game was when the two tuba players from the Tech band went over to join the BG band on "Hey Baby". good stuff.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

the color guy is a Michigan State sports info dude, although a Tech grad and local guy. why we cant use our own people I dont know. Randy does a greqt job. Brent is good too. Wes fills in sometimes and is good. Mitch Lake can talk hockey. most of the Misfits could take a decent shot at it. all of the season ticket holders could fill in. if the accent doesnt matter. :) at least its not a UofM guy, like our coa ... oh wait. at least its not a Northern grad like .... oh my. is it med time yet? and I didnt even get into my feminist rant about having a woman do color. the area has alot of hockey Moms who know alot of hockey.

I like Brent the best, but really doesn't matter to me. I just know I hate listening to this new guy! Doesn't matter where he's from. If Mitch were the only option, I'd take Mitch over this guy any day.

Tourney or bust by the end of the next 2 seasons.
They can do it.
