Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Well, one team showed up this weekend and it wasn't the huskies, what a pathetic showing. 14 goals against...sad, pathetic, disappointing, infuriating.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

pretty much says it all. like coach whitten said, "we need everybody", and we didn't have it. I guess I don't get how we can play so well against some top teams, but lose like this.... twice.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Lot's of hay in the barn at this point. Time to really ask and assess where this program is headed.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Pathetic is an understatement to describe this weekend, I can't think of a word that would describe it properly, but it is very, very bad. Oh well, as I've said every year I've followed Tech, there's always next year.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

I'd rather this team played on the road. They've proven that do not have any idea how to seriously buckle down and WIN at home, unless they're undermatched (UAH).

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

And no post game from Mel, he's either too pissed off or too embarrassed to do it I would guess.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Oh there is no doubt it's going in the right direction, just not as fast as we would like.

Completely agree MS.

Wow, what a disapointing weekend, couldn't really have predicted that coming into this weekend.

Was it the same lineup as Friday? I thoguht that might happen when Mel said in his postgame, you hate to challenge players and then not give them a chance to prove themselves. It didn't work out so well.

I'm disapointed Mel didn't do his postagme, win/lose, however frustrated he is, he or an asistant should be doing their postgame take on the game.

Wow did not see that coming. How could we let them do that 2 nights in a row. Alaska took us to school all weekend.

Wow, just wow. This team really needs to do some soul searching. Big series (at home I might add) and they put on a sh*t show! The fans expect and deserve better than the product they put on the ice this weekend. Totally unacceptable.
Someone on the coaching staff should be on the post-game show to explain what went wrong and what they plan to do about it. Enough is enough already!!!! When is this team finally going to turn the corner ?

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

It's a process.

I went and looked at Alaska's season. they could easily be where Ferris is, but for a bounce or two and they are loaded with upperclassmen.

If we sweep nmu and split at Mankato, we get home ice. So let's look forward and make this happen. It's do able!

No matter who we play or where, the first round will be extremely tough.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

I hit refresh on my browser three times waiting for it to update to include the Saturday game score. Then I looked closer and realize that giving up seven goals WAS the Saturday score. There are no words...

As much as I would like to have home ice, I agree that they might as well take their chances on the road as "underdogs". Other than #1 and #10 all the rest is up for grabs and that includes the playoffs. Any team who makes the playoffs is capable of winning the post season tourney and moving on the NCAA tourney.

Professional courtesy usually dictates that a team wish their recent opponent good luck the rest of the season (unless they are a rival in which case you still hope they rot in h*ll). But with LSSU/NMU and BSU/FSU splitting, and the Nooks taking two from you guys, a tight race just got squished even tighter. So UAH is the only team we can wish good luck to over their remaining games.

And to clarify, the Nooks have seventeen under-classmen (8 freshmen, 9 sophomores), and only ten upper-classmen (7 juniors, 3 seniors). Granted, our three seniors (Kunyk, Beck, Quinn) will be hard to replace.

The team can't "turn the corner" any faster than the culture of losing can be changed into one of winning. None of the players on this team were alive when Tech was consistently winning or at least competitive in every game. All they've ever seen is losing. That goes for most all the fans too. They have no connection or anchor to the glory days other than their head coach and that link is tenuous at best. Give the current group high praise for trying to break the link with the near (30 years) past and if successful, they will be history makers. But the team alone can't do it. There needs to be some seriously creative thinking in the office even if that means new thinkers.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

I'm afraid we've seen all that this team and season have to offer. A .500, middle of the pack, average team that will make the playoffs but won't advance. :( At least they'll finish with a better record than last year's team and one of the best win % in the last 30 years. :)

I am hoping this team is different and chooses to make a run this year. We were feeling the same way going into Bowling Green.

Need to get up for NMU and not accept the recent history against NMU (a split or sweep by NMU).
Tech needs 6 of 8 points in the last 4 games. Go finish 3-1 or 3-0-1 and then make a run in the playoffs.

Both goalies need to be ready to go. If both suffer, I'd even take a look at Matt for a start. One weekend does not a season make, forget it with a good showing againt NMU.

With the tightness of the standings, it really doesn't matter where you finish, you are in for a tough draw in the opening round. With all the splits most of the WCHA first round playoffs likely will go 3 games.

What a joke. I doubt I'll even waste my time driving 2 hours to Mankato now.
