Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Good lineup tonight, if Vallis can't go tomorrow, hopefully Tyler Heinonen is on the trip.

Great job Tonight.

Go get them tomorrow....

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Can anyone enlighten me on the last 5 minutes? I was at a different game and missed the whole thing.

Glad to see a win, glad to see 5 goals.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Someone on the radio, probably Dirk, said that Tech has often outshot opponents but has not often run into a goalie having an off-night like that. It might be the only real difference. Mel also said he felt better about the team's performance after some close losses. So they might not have played better, but for once got the lucky bounces they needed. A SWEEP (am I allowed to say that?) will make the carnival series a lot more meaningful and exciting to watch.

In 20 years of watching hockey in BG, I don't think I've ever seen a team be able to put their stick on the ice and have the puck on it like I did last night. No matter what BG tried to do, there was a Tech stick in the way, and it usually ended up going the other direction.

Won't the opponent alone solve that problem? ;)

Great comeback, Great sweep, 2 points they sure as hell needed.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Huge road sweep, but hopefully it doesn't make them overconfident for Carnival weekend.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Y'all can thank Kevin Hall for that one.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Big sweep, great to see J. Johnstone contributing this weekend.
Jamie lost the puck a few times for those early goals, but he fought through it.
Great job by some of the guys to keep their cool in that 2nd when it was heated and BG took the majors.

Never led until OT, we were always fighting

Mel's postgame interview:
Heart's beating, can't say enough about our team, down by 2, killed a lot of penalties in a row, couldn't be more proud, they've only lost 3 all year in this building
Told team after 2nd, Mel said he had a good feeling, BG is playing hard/physical, crowd against you, can't say enough about our team
J. Johnstone, senior, taken step foward
Blake Pietila worked so hard and got PPG
Phillips hung in there even though he might've had a tough night
BG lost 2 dmen in 2nd, their 4 dmen were gassed at end of game, we changed forecheck
we got to play 5x5, lreally ike our team 5x5 like it was in 3rd, rix/vallis/j. johnstone so called 4th line was good
tough to give up the lead after we tied it 3-3, but killed a penalty after that, no quit in this team, glad they got rewarded for hard work
score 10 goals, they were 1 or 2 in defense in WCHA, we've been waiting for this, a ton of credit for Damon/Billy, they've been patient for this team,
When's the last time Tech was .500 in the league this late, we had a tough early schedule, it helped us come into this building
Not sure how much snow we have to drive through to get home, we might be flying back home
Get to go home for 5 games, last game wasn't as good in Houghton, but we're playign well, we need a good crowd
it'll give use good confidence, coaches need to keep them in the right frame of mind
We need to cut down goal against, but big to walk out for 4 points
If we continue to do things right, the right way, things will break our way

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Yes, and so was the trip Berkle received at the Tech blueline and the charge DeSalvo received beside the net, both on the PK in OT. Add in the "spear." And well, y'all received a gift.
Well I wasn't there and so my perspective might be different. But BGSU got multiple gifts in the tie in Houghton, Otherwise Tech would have won.

I understand that these two games were really good to watch. Wish I could have.

Would the ref purposefully call a spear and give a game misconduct, if he hadn't speared him?
It's a tough loss, and those are hard. We've had a lot of them all season long.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

The spear was actually a cup check performed by the BG player after sweeney and him were hacking away on each other before a faceoff... I believe the BG player should have also gotten a 2 minute slashing to match the MTU minor for slashing and the major for doing the cup check after they traded slashes....

They were both slashing at each other. One wasn't spearing anymore or anyless than the other.

That's bull; a convenient half view of the play. You should look at the whole play all the time instead of doing the wave in a one goal game.

It was a clear stick between the legs by the BG player with an upwards motion to the Tech player's groin. The two slashes to the legs of the Tech player started it, and after one retaliation, a stick to the junk will absolutely get you 5 and a game. Taking the Tech player for two was the right call as well.

Hall's awful calls in the first half of the second period were mitigated by making the correct calls at the latter half of the period.

The Petan play in front where he got 2 for going into the goaltender started everything.....wasn't the right call in that situation at all.
He gets drilled from behind into the goaltender by the BG defender - the puck goes in, which is a good goal - and then rips Petan's helmet off. 5 and a game is the correct call there as well. While I'm sure Tech deserved 2 on that play as well from the scrum, it wasn't with Petan if the play was called correctly, which would have allowed the goal to be counted.

Except for those two plays, BG got the benefit of most of the calls in that game. To classify this as a gift game for Tech, tells me that you really don't care to follow the play. And considering the know nothing mouthing off and showboating I heard and saw from the student section last night, that doesn't surprise me one bit.

Sour grapes. if someone doesn't want to acknowledge that BGSU was gooning it up, he should at least admit that those were stupid penalties to take, especially given the game situation.

Since you were sitting behind the bench, I guess it's understandable that you couldn't see the blade of the Tech player's stick hacking away at the crotch of the BG player before they turned to face each other. Yes, I was on the other side of the ice and could see it plain as day. They did the EXACT SAME THING to each other. The "spearing" call isn't a problem, as long as it's called both ways. Perhaps I should have said I didn't like the slashing call that was called because it should've been called a spear?

Call it what you want. I saw lots of Tech elbows go very high. The guy that hit DeSalvo in OT clearly left his feet, and made contact to the head. Of course, the 2 minute boarding call where he took two hands to the back of the head into the glass was hiim gooning it up too?

Tech is good. I'm not afraid to admit that. But if you were there and don't think the refs played a HUGE roll in the outcome of that game, well, we're just going to have to agree to disagree. What could have been a great game to watch Saturday turned into another Kevin Hall ****-show.

Meh,

since we have a BGSU fan here: the biggest question mark coming in to the year was goaltending. are you all happy with the goaltending?
