Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

I heard Rolston was playing Big John much more frequently because he had a great camp and improved his skating. If you look at the number of games he's played this season, that does seem to be the case. Not saying that he's an NHL caliber forward, but on this year's Sabres, he's not the worst liability.

Let's be honest - he's been playing because he's on the Sabres, who will be lucky to finish this season with 60 pts. Rolston realistically has about two more years to get them back to the playoffs, and if he does not will then be let go as the sacrificial lamb in favor of a coach who is more of a "name".

John Scott is a pretty nice guy off the ice. I knew him when I was at Tech, had several classes with him, even worked on a project with him (and Conner, actually), went out drinking with him a few times. He was always very friendly and he was pretty dang smart too.

He obviously shouldn't be elbowing opposing players in the skull, but I do believe some of the tweets I've seen today saying that he is genuinely remorseful, and that he feels bad about what he's done. I don't remember him ever being involved in a dirty play before this...he's always been called a goon, and a fighter, but other than that, I don't think he's ever been suspended for dirty play before now, at least that I can remember.

I'll agree. Good guy. And if he's expressed remorse there's no reason to not believe it. Tough guy. But a class act.

Actually, he's a pretty good guy. And he made some great strides as Tech to even become a prospect. Worked really hard and earned his shot. He's the guy other teams and fans love to hate, but you would love to have him on your squad.
Reminds me a bit of Mike Peluso.

So, all of the nerdy types that figured out how to rig the Hobey voting several years back....you need to get back into gear, and make sure that the NACHOS conference tournament is named "The Fabulous Four". Apparently it is a vote? Did I read that right on Twitter? If this is correct, we need to make it happen.

MTU announcing today they have hired a "Director of New Media". Is that a business way of saying he gets to drive the video board?
That's great news because Tech is not on the leading edge of current social media technology. I got concerned a while back when I asked Pres. Mroz if any hi-tech companies were recruiting at Tech and he said, "Yes. Ford and Boeing." No disrespect to Ford and Boeing but I was thinking more along the lines of Intel, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, etc.

I recall seeing Micro$oft at Career Fair a few times. Can't think of any others. Not even really Google.

I'd think a lot of those companies recruit via other channels outside of colleges, especially the web-based companies like Facebook, Twitter, etc. They're looking for the Bill Gates/Steve Jobs type wunderkinds who coded their own web pages in their garage from scratch.

When they do send reps, they're mostly going to schools that are bigger "names". They often have a summer internship program for juniors that targets the bigger schools, then can select the best interns for full-time hire after graduation (this is how my best friend from HS got into Microsoft while attending Michigan). Many of those companies also don't really need to recruit, they get hundreds if not thousands of applications online each day, and can cherry pick the best local applicants, plus the creme de la creme of the applicants from out of state who will likely move just to work for them.

It's easy to use the reffing as an excuse, but the reality is we have to play better. Especially on special teams, but in every facet of the game we have to be better.Faceoffs, turnovers, etc. And we have to be more disciplined. too many real penalties. Pretty discouraging to tell the truth.

Tonight, I agree. This loss is entirely on the players.

NMU was very quick, very strong, and handled the puck well. Tech was good on the PK, not good on the PP, and very good 4x4. Tech acted snakebit. There was lots of door slamming and grousing at the refs.

A pretty fair assessment of the game. I was really impressed with Rix. On the penalty kill that NMU ultimately scored on he blocked at least two point blank shots. He was obviously in pain but soldiered on. The rest of the game he really hustled out there.

I expect an entirely different game tonight. The smaller ice and home crowd should give Tech a huge advantage. I actually wouldn't be shocked to see a similar score as last season in Houghton.

The powerplay would have to get going for that to happen.

Need to establish a 3rd line again, Furne let's get going, and hopefully D. Johnstone lights it up after a warmup last night.

Let's go Tech, the season starts tonight!

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

I've done the double reverse chicken kill. and called Miss Chalmot for the voodoo hex. new underwear. new seqson from this day forward!! lucky socks - march on without me. Tech beads, bracelets, earrings gone gone gone. buried in an undisclosed location with a ... ugh ... Northern jersey.

if these we can't beat the pastry chefs!!! most of whom go on to stellar careers at McDonalds. we shouldn't even have to do anything, we should be able to outsmart them. gawd. what a bunch of pimply faced drag queens in pantyhose. and their "burning desire" has nothing to do with sports.

this is so beneath Tech to even have to play them. its like the NBA All Stars being asked to play against girl scout camp team.

I'm in a mean mood tonight and I EXPECT a win! so there.

hey! it worked! I wore a Miami jersey!

(no actual chickens were harmed in these posts. any relationship to anyone living or dead was accidental. huskyfan does not believe in psychics. any insult to any Northern students was intentional and true. huskyfan does not condone hockey violence, a nuclear Iran or Big East reffing. huskyfan shuts up now. time to ready myself forthe house of evil.

Like the beer commercial says, it's only weird if it doesn't work. ;)

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

For Tech fans coming down, Parking at Yost is a challenge to say the least. You can park in the Crisler arena lots south of yost and pay money for parking, or you can park on the streets of Ann Arbor somewhere and pay nothing, but walk. However if you do that, and are parked illegally, the police will find you. I recommend scoping it out ahead of time. You can also park closer to town, like in a garage and walk or take the bus. I usually park on the residential streets nearby and walk. Also, the garages can be very tight, bringing a truck can be done, but it's real interesting sometimes. The MSU vs Michigan football game is in East lansing that day.
