I'm not worried about you. Just these other folks acting like this is completely different.

killjoy.
Mel has more hockey in his little finger than last year's entire coaching staff. ;)

Nah, then RIT would just "upset" Tech in the first round of the NCAA's.

Isn't Tech hosting a regional this year in Wisconsin? Or was that last year?

Being upset by RIT is a lot better then not coming anywhere near the NCAA's for the 1,000th straight year.

but you've got to admit that last year's coaches would've found a way to completely burn out their two top lines and lose both those games (after benching everyone that committed a penalty and destroying team morale).

Yeah, I don't think many people were critical of the recruiting aspect of past coaching staffs. They were proven recruiters before they got here, and will do well in the future. The issue was coaching and on ice play, not recruiting.

The thought the biggest issue was the constant rotation of injuries and other series of unfortunate events.

There was that, and there was also the lack of player development. A lot of guys plateaued or regressed when they should've been improving with experience. I also think off-ice discipline was a problem the last 2-3 years.

I hope he gets raped by an angry drunk yooper in the bathroom of Subway.
Why a Subway? I would think a Burger King would work better in the long run. That way, he then has "Flashbacks" whenever he hears "the Humpty Dance" being played. That's a fairly well used stadium music used now, and if he really has bad reactions to it, I'm sure the pep band could figure out an arrangement for it that would send him looking for his happy place on the bench.

I listened to the mel show this morning. A few interesting tidbits.
Gordic might make it back for the DU series. He has been cleared for contact again but will not play this coming week. More likely the series after denver.
Mel took one phone call who asked if the team's talent was what he expected and he mentioned that they could skate maybe a little better but that you really don't know until you get on the ice. He was saying a lot of nice things about Robinson of course and Olson and about how hard the team as a whole worked.
He also talked about Bimidji and said nice things about how good they are and how they like to use a floater.

I would like to be able to e mail questions to the show rather than having to call but whatever. I would also like it to be broadcast even if it was just you tube. The highlights that wes puts up on the tech site are good but they take 15 seconds to load/ buffer and 5 seconds to play back before loading/ buffering again and the software is such you can't stop the playback and let it finish loading. So to watch the whole thing uninterrupted is impossible and overall is a huge pain in the keester. Flashy has a much better set up. Plus of course the video feed is awful.

I think the team as a whole needs to work on a few things. 1. playing with the lead. three out of four games we have had the lead in the third and squandered it. this cannot keep happening.
2. passing the puck with a motive. sometimes we just dump the puck out rather than having a reason to move it to a certain area. there needs to be a reason for every movement of the puck.
3. Defensive breakdowns. We still have too many of them.

Because Subway is next door to their hotel and the closest Burger King is in Calu****ingmet.

Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

I think the Denver series at the end of the month will be a good barometer of where the Huskies are as far as positioning in the league.

I attended the Denver Univ vs Boston Univ game Sat night. If Tech gets to play the Denver team that showed up for the first 50 minutes and got outplayed, outworked and shutout by Boston 4-0, Tech will sweep them. If they get the DU team that played the last 10+ minutes of the game where they dominated the play end-to-end and lit BU up for 3 goals and were pressuring for a 4th, Tech will have their hands full.

I am reading many good comments about the crowds at Tech and repeated references from Mel about "we need fans in the building." I think having a rockin' house is worth something to a team trying to establish a new era of Tech hockey. Winning breeds winning and the more smalls wins the team can put onder their belt the better off they will be. Solid fan support is a win for the team at this point.

Also I was talking with some of the broadcast crew at the BU rink and they had some interesting thoughts about Notre Dame joining Hockey East. They said no way Nortre Dame lasts more than two years in Hockey East. They said it is all but a done deal that once the current Notre Dame football NBC TV contract is up, all Notre Dame sports are moving to the BigTen. Everyone on the outside thinks that Nortre Dame is holding out on the BigTen, but actually the BigTen wants no part of Nortre Dame unless they come to the table without "broadcasting baggage". If Notre Dame ends up in the BigTen, the NCHC is going to be spitting tacks because they are suddenly going to look like redheaded step children to TV execs with no big name programs in their conference (outside of the world of hockey).

FYI,
Ryan J

not if it was at Ford Field ;)

So who votes in that poll? I mean seriously, 10th?
I'm sure you would somehow enjoy it if Michigan Tech beat Michigan at Ford Field in front of 30,000 Wal-Mart wolverines!
