AFAIK Shields will only be around for one season.

Think he just came for experience and as a favor to tMel? One year enough to get himself noticed and continue as a coach elsewhere? He taking classes at Tech? Just what are the "rules" for a volunteer coach?

did you, by chance, meet my brother on a beach in Marquette? (he mentioned meeting someone who had been staying at our favorite motel)

Who is going to design the tMel tShirts?

looks like Khaira and Petan had a good weekend and are among the top 5 BCHL scoring leaders which bodes well for more future offense. I'm still thinking our next goalie is going to be the most important recruit in a long time and hoping Shields will come through with a superstar. Not that I'm not enjoying the moment here.

It wasn't me.
We didn't stay at the usual place. I had forgotten all about parents weekend. By the time I called for reservations the place was full ( did have a nice long chat about Tyler coming to Tech though). After that I called all over, finally found a room at the wonderland Motel up at Laurium. Actually not a bad place, nicer on the inside than it looks from the outside. You have to over look the crotchety old attitude you get from the old gal who seems to manage the place. Other than that a nice place.

He's exploring if he wants to do goaltending coach full time.

I think the Denver series at the end of the month will be a good barometer of where the Huskies are as far as positioning in the league. It should be a real good test for them. Every series is important. That starts with the Beavers this weekend. It's hard for me not to get too excited this early in the season

I don't want to throw cold water on you sir, and certainly I am the quintessential optimist, but it's a real long stretch to expect us to beat denver.Personally I just hope we can play well and that gwoz gets a face full of rotten tomatoes from some fan.Maybe we can get the misfits to hold up some disrespectful signs.

Maybe we can see if Gwoz will trade a split for not having to travel to Houghton?

I was actually thinking that Bemidji is going to be the best barometer of where we're at. Mankato looks terrible, and Bemidji for sure, maybe Wisco, St, Clooud, & UAA will determine where we finish between 7th and 11th place. Who else could we potentially leapfrog if everything goes right? (hint: not Denver)

No, WE will determine where we finish between 7th and 11th. If I learned anything this weekend it's the value of hard work and playing hard for 3 periods. South of Denver, CC, UMN and NoDak, we should be able to play with anyone. I"m not saying we should win against the rest, but it should be a matter of effort and breaks.

one game at a time. one game. its like being an alcoholic. one day at a time. beat the Beavers Friday.

Oldish Husky has a good point....having watched the Huskies for many years, it's pretty clear that the current team has some talent. From what they've shown so far, there's no reason they couldn't get close to .500 with this season's schedule. I'll be interested to watch the Bemidji game. The Beavers look statistically about the same as Tech so far, but they've also faced some really tough opponents already this season.....and took one from Miami. I think the Bemidji series will be tougher than the Wisconsin series. Tech will need to turn it up another notch.

People, let's not forget...last year's team started 3-0-2. Settle down, it's a long season.

Oh, don't worry, I have complete faith that this team still sucks. I'm from MN, every team I root for is downright terrible.

I'm not worried about you. Just these other folks acting like this is completely different.

I can't think of the last time I wished the hockey regular season ended immediately. Unless the thought was more along the lines of "I wish the season would just end so I don't have to watch this anymore".

Nah, then RIT would just "upset" Tech in the first round of the NCAA's.
