Well I had a decent night out, and I see that I missed nothing special.

By my count, and including tonight's injuries, it's...

-Gordic (could be done for the year)
-Royer
-Bunger
-Gwilliam (playing, but not 100%)
-Baker (might play soon)
-VanWagner (might play soon)

Plus Kattelus, whose career at Michigan Tech is obviously over due to whatever dumb decision(s) he made.

Definitely doesn't speak well of Bangen's conditioning, that's for sure.

I wouldn't lose hope just yet. We played a good game up until we took the most retarded uncalled for CFB penalty. We were keeping up and had some momentum going and then that just killed us.

Then just to make it worse we took an even more stupid penalty to put us on the 5X3. I still blame us sucking on taking dumb arse penalties at crucial times during the games.

Tonights game should have been much closer, but after we screwed up with the dumb penalties it was all over.

FML, I hate losing so badly. Lets go Bemidji! AYE AYE AYE AYE, Jesus hates Wisconsin!

Tech's biggest problems, from a fan without inside connections:


Item #1: This team needs to get healthy. If Jamie needs to mail it in for a series to allow his best players to rest for the GLI, so be it - stick Cramer in net for an entire weekend, play only 4th liners, etc. This wasn't that series, even though the team mailed it in anyway.

Item #2: They also need to stay healthy. Jamie has proven he can win (sometimes) if he has a full complement of healthy players, which he hasn't had for a third of his career at Tech. I place most of the blame at Kyle Bangen's feet - despite our shiny new skating treadmill, our players are much more fragile than I've ever seen, and that speaks to faults in the conditioning program.

Item #3: Confidence in the team, on the bench and on the ice. Having Gwilliam back is one of the few silver linings from last year. But, Jamie doesn't have confidence anymore, nor does the team, and even the die-hard fans are losing it. Somehow he needs to fire himself up, then stoke up the team. Otherwise I give him no more than until the end of 2011.

Item #4: Defense. What the eff happened here? What happened to that one year of exceptional PK?

God this thread is depressing. Like a Buffalo Bill fan after losing their fourth straight Superbowl depressing. :( :(

This is like a Detroit Lions fan thread, except with no #1 draft pick to make it all better.

eh, my first thoughts was more like comparing it to Northwest Missouri State, who has matched the Bills in consecutive big game losses, but all of their games where lost in the final minutes of the game. Honest to God, the Muscle Shoals PD had cops on all of the bridges over the Tennessee River after the game last year to keep Bearcat fans from jumping.

Its like you guys have collected that level of Depressing, thinned it up a little with booze, and then have marinated yourselves it it.

I think at any point I'd take four straight runs to the NC's, even with losses in the final game ;)

IMO, the two issues with the PK are:

1. We take far too many penalties in the first place, which leaves the units exhausted by the end of the first or second period.

2. I think we're starting to realize just how important guys like Schwarz, Angelow, Kitti, and Kinrade were to our PK the last couple of seasons, and they all graduated at the same time. That left us with a bunch of freshman/sophomores who've mostly seen few (if any) PK minutes, and a group of juniors/seniors who have, for the most part, only seen time on the secondary units.

I also agree with you that while Bangen is the one who should be taking the heat right now, Russell is in serious danger of losing his grip on this team if they have another year like last year. A team will only listen to their coach for so long when they are continuously being blown away by opponents. They start to lose faith in the systems, start playing as individuals instead of a team, and then everything goes to sh*t.

I sincerely hope that a weekend at home will help us get back on track.

You can tell yourself this now, but you'll get awfully tired of always giving up a late PP goal to the other team every year that would let them have the Victory. There's only so much of just being Happy to be here one can take. ;)

Anyone notice that next to "he shoots just wide" Dirk's second most common line is "Tech looks dead tired out there...."

Curious, How does a team that prides itself on conditioning (or at least say they do) always be so "dead tired"

And it's not just this season. It has been happening for the past couple of seasons.
