Michigan State Hockey 202?-202?

HOCKEY TONIGHT!! It's too bad we will only be able to watch 4 of these first set of games on TV with no streaming option being available it seems. Must be they are not allowing students into Munn to produce the BTN2GO streams.

My understanding is tomorrow is on B10+

How very Arizona State. The guy who could easily have been dismissed with a borderline major penalty ends up scoring the tying goal.

And this baseball/softball guy that BTN scraped up is horri-awful.

Disappointing to lose the late lead but other than that, we played fine. I guess we look how I expected, but maybe a slightly worse powerplay. Defense was quite good and DeRidder was excellent, which is certainly a bright spot. But we still lack offensive firepower or the ability to control the puck offensively for very long. I think Cole’s gonna have to recruit his way out of this new tradition of ours.

You are correct! Must be they are taking a game by game approach because as of the msuspartans.com schedule earlier in the week it was not listed but is now? Future games only have radio listed.. Perhaps the B10 website is a better place to look in the future...

It seems like Danton has a lot of confidence with this team. Defensively, it was a fantastic weekend and DeRitter also looked very good, but I still don't see where the goal-scoring is going to come from. That said, the sample size is pretty limited.

I'm cautiously optimistic. (I'm growing less optimistic about actually getting through the season, though.)

Also, did anyone else here shell out the $75 for a cardboard cutout? I did. It's going to be weird watching "me" in the crowd haunting the blue line from the comfort of my armchair at home.

That said, what about this year isn't weird?

I share your divided optimism. I think we'll be a solid defensive team that will struggle for goals. That looked true based on what was returning from last season and what we see on the roster now. Biggest issue from this weekend was 0-6 on the power play. A young team struggling to score in the run of play is one thing, but you've got to take advantage of these opportunities to have chances to win with this kind of team.

It’s only been 2 games. I’m reserving my assessment of the power play and offense for another month. A 1.5/game goals scored is not good, but it’s better than ASU with a .5. By January both will be higher.

Both games at OSU will be on B10+

I'm starting to believe a bit more after last night. It was pretty cool to take the game back in overtime after giving up the tying goal in the last bit of regulation.

The radio broadcasts are no longer behind a paywall. You can get the new app from the usual places and it's all free. Also, WJIM-AM now has an FM translator in Lansing at 106.9 with a drastic improvement in signal quality.

Defense+ goaltending has been consistent and we’ve thoroughly outshot our opponent in the previous two games. Goal #’s still sluggish but it feels like progress.

I could only watch the first 2 periods last night but it looked like Minnesota was just straight up better than us. We knew they would be tough but I’m hoping to see a better performance tonight.

With Flohockey losing BTN+ and pretty much every streaming service dropping the FS networks, it's getting increasingly hard to get a Big Ten hockey game to watch.

Well, disappointing weekend. I thought we played well enough to win the last 2 periods. If we’d have managed more of that all weekend we might have gotten some points.

Quite honestly I thought your Spartans had the better of the play in periods 2 and especially 3 last night. Lots of scoring chances that on a different night would have gone in. Good luck the rest of the way.

More from Neutral Zone scouting service:

’02 Joel Maatta to Michigan State for 2021

A 6-foot-2 forward from Finland, Maatta lands a commitment to Michigan State after coming to North America last season to play for the Sioux City Musketeers. He acclimated to the U.S. well, scoring 11 goals and 14 assists in 43 games last season while also playing for Finland’s U18 team at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the U18 Worlds.

NZ Scouts: “The big center plays a hard-nosed game, and has a knack for the net. He used his size and strength well, protecting pucks on entries and on the wall, as well as finishing checks following chip-ins. His goal came on a net-front rebound from a point shot, following a great shift with a won draw and battle on the forecheck. He worked hard to win pucks offensively, grinding on the cycle. Also worked hard defensively as the down low guy, and had a blocked shot.”

No points and a -3 in 4 games thus far this season, so a slow start to say the least. It remains to be seen if Cole is upping our F game with this one.
