Michigan State Hockey 202?-202?

Hard to believe that going into Christmas break that this team would make a run at the MSU losing streak record immediately upon starting 2022.

It's a January-February thing. I guess Lewandowski and Loughran were more than just the glue for a superficially decent late-fall/early-winter team.

I wouldn't say it was superficial. With those two healthy, MSU was actually decent. The team is still playing hard, but Lewandowski was the kind of guy that made everyone else on the ice play better.

It certainly makes you wonder about what next season's going to be like.

Convince me to blow $900 for three season tickets for 2022-23. The perfect analogy to 2021-22 is a solid cannoli pastry dough with a soft creamy center exposed. That's a blowout series won by a team that was down what? 4 players who were Beijing?

Personally I always thought the early OOC schedule wins were smoke and mirrors. I'm too lazy to do the math in hindsight, but feel free to quickly peruse the PW of most of the early vanquished teams. The bottom line is that we can't compete in the B1G and, until we can do that, I'm staying on the sidelines since I feel like a broken record by rehashing the same observations.

If you were expecting a boost from Loughran getting back in the lineup, forget it. Apparently he didn't think it was important to go to class last fall, so I'm told he is no longer with the program.

Thanks for the intel, John J. I wondered why Cole never mentioned any injury to Loughran during any of his press conferences, so I was going to ask if anyone on the forum knew the back story, but never got around to it. I had always thought Cole would have a hard time reeling him in as far as penalties, so this development doesn't surprise me in the least.

Recruiting news…MSU signed 3 for next year this fall: Basgall (smaller defensive dman), Shoudy (potential checking line forward), and Russell (decent scoring numbers in USHL). Missing is Winter Wallace who has had problems scoring in the USHL.

Also add Jack Sparkes as a verbal probably for 2023. A big 6’8” dman from Ontario.

I guess you were correct with your reason why Winter Wallace wasn't signed back in the Fall. He's no longer committed to MSU per last weekend's Youngstown line charts.

I don’t know if I like putting the ceremony after the game, but I’m really happy the seniors got a win on senior night. That losing streak was brutal.

Agreed, great to hear that these important traditions are observed and extra meaningful after a win where a Sr. 4th liner gets the GWG. Is there any chance that any of the seniors would be invited back after such a ceremony? Also, it will be interesting to see if any of them elect to go into the transfer portal a la Tommy Miller last season, who's carved out a decent role for himself as a responsible defensive dman at a successful Northeastern.

I also was unsure about it but now I like it.

it was also a very nice ceremony. I feel like for a few years it felt very rushed and lackluster but this one felt appropriate. I swear there was at least one year where the guys didn’t even get to skate a lap.

Also, feels good to finally get a win. I checked out emotionally weeks ago but really wanted that one for the players.

One good thing about following an annually bad hockey team is the lack of emotional attachment when your rival crushes you and ends your season in round 1 of the league tournament.

Doesn’t feel like much will be changing anytime soon, either.
