Michigan State 2023-24. Tis the boldly numbered season.

Shot selection is going to be something to watch on Saturday.

In the three games where MSU beat Ohio State this season, the Buckeyes blocked 14, 13, and 10 shots. The Spartans scored 6, 6, and 5 goals respectively.

In the game Ohio State won, they blocked 26. MSU managed only 2 goals.
OSU did a great job gumming up the middle during that Friday game. (Kind of what Wisconsin did during that Saturday game in Madison.)

It seems like we're a lot less lethal when we can't get to center and are forced to play on the edges.

OSU has been peaking lately but our Achilles heel is still too many penalties. If we can stay out of the box it will make an interesting game Saturday.

A little late to this….Crossman can’t come back and while Nienhaus could, he won’t. We will need a 3rd goalie. Also I expect a couple of players who haven’t been able to break into the regular lineup will opt to transfer to a less competitive team opening up a couple of spots. The unknown is will any underclassmen on regular lines/pairings leave? I suspect we will lose a dman after he’s drafted. Anyone else would be a surprise.

One I’m hoping we don’t lose is Jurecki. I really liked what I saw out of his few appearances and I think he’d be a perfect replacement for Kelly on our rather cherished 4th line.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Hurtig and Best move on. Also wondering if diPasquo looks for a #1 role somewhere.

Playing for the whole ball of wax at home on Saturday.

Great crowd last night. I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like next weekend.

I figured Best would have transferred after last year so maybe he’s fine just hanging around here.

Hurtig seems obvious. Di Pasquo is interesting to me. I was surprised he came here in the first place considering The fanfare on Augustine.

The buzz in the building, especially early, was as intense as I’ve ever seen. Next week is might be unlike anything in Munn’s history. I hope the team gives the crowd a good performance against UM this time.

The highest I can get MSU in the PairWise Predictor is 3rd. The lowest is 6th. They are both outliers, most scenarios have them either 4th (the last #1 seed) or 5th (the highest #2 seed).

The path to a #1 seed is simple.

- Win on Saturday
- ANY scenario in the Nacho EXCEPT Denver beating North Dakota in the title game

Recalling my preseason expectations: We've made the tournament, so I'm going to be happy with any outcome.

That said, I'd strongly prefer the NCAA tournament option that doesn't send MSU east. (Which would likely mean a win tomorrow and a Denver loss.)

Regardless, beat Michigan.

Well, hard to write more of a fairytale ending to this team’s season at Munn than that. What an unbelievable night that will no doubt go down as one of the greatest in program history. It’s gotta feel incredible for the players, especially 5th year guys like Mueller who stuck out some lean years to come back and go out with a real bang. I’ve also gotta think our transfers feel MSU was the best decision they’ve ever made.

The team still has serious work to be done but they’ve definitely earned their place in Spartan Hockey history. Bravo.

Thankfully there is no bigger choke team in the history of the NCAA tournament than the Broncos. That's only the 2nd ever overtime win in the show for MSU, the other was the famous Mark Hirth goal in the 1989 quarterfinals.
