Michigan State 2023-24. Tis the boldly numbered season.

Outshooting Penn State in Pegula is a rare accomplishment. It had only happened 5 times in the previous 5 seasons combined.

The only time MSU ever did it before tonight was the very first game they played in the building on Valentine's Day 2014, a 2-2 tie where they outshot the Lions 34-27.

Yes; all kind of surreal, isn't it? They won the faceoff battle and played with a ton of speed, and voila, ton of shots! Conversely, same led to fewer shots for them. This group is just clicking on all cylinders right now, and we thought it was just a matter of time. Where is the ceiling?

This team is miles ahead of where they were in October, especially defensively but offensively as well. The way they move the puck, especially in transition is just beautiful. It feels like someone is always right where they need to be for that first pass to go right back the other way and off to the races. Also, guys know exactly where to find the man for that first pass. That’s all just good coaching.

Back in October, I was genuinely concerned how shaky our D and goaltending felt. They’ve buttoned it up much more quickly than I even hoped.

Man watching this team and this staff work this years has been fun. So many years of poor recruiting and coaching and now MSU is back where they should be

For anyone intimidated by the numbers that the Dump Skunks are bringing into this weekend, consider this.

Overall, they have scored 91 goals (4th most in the NCAA) and 29 PPG with a PP% of 35.8 (1st in NCAA).
Now take out the 38 goals and 13 PPG they scored against Stonehill and Lindenwood combined.
That leaves them with just 53 goals (which would rank 48th) and 16 PPG with a PP% of 25.8 (10th).

Overall, they average 4.6 GPG and have a 2.9 GAA. But in the Big Ten, they average just 3.1 GPG with a 3.2 GAA.

Not saying they don't have any good players, but they are statistically the definition of flat-track bullies this season.

Michigan's got one good (ok, prolific) forward line of sophomores, and if MSU can slow them down, I see good things for our boys this weekend.

no 7 vs no 15 in hockey

wrestling triple header is
1 v 11
3 v unranked
6 v 9
B1G wrestling has 8 of the top 25 ranked teams, B1G hockey has 4 of the top 20 teams

Let's face it, we're a wrestling conference
Also, people in Iowa really like their wrestling which is why that unranked Purdue at #3 Iowa will also be reaired at 2 am.

I see no point in the B1G hockey league existing if they aren’t even going to show the games on tv regularly. That was like the biggest part of their sales pitch before the league started. College hockey was scammed.

I suppose when the concept was fully fleshed out, they didn't see the big trend coming. Seems like its all about streaming revenue now (B1G+), like Peacock and NBC. It's surprising how much we're seeing it with big-time basketball and even football.

Easily the worst period I’ve seen MSU play since the BC series. Looks like their nerves got the best of them and UofM came right out and punched them right in the mouth. Now we get an opportunity to see how well they handle adversity. Lots of hockey left, but they had better bounce back hard or this could get ugly.

That was a good ole fashioned butt whuppin. After that second goal, MSU was just plain intimidated enough to totally forget its identity. Let's see what they're made of on Saturday. Not much time to figure it out.

I would have preferred game 1 to be at Yost. The team didn’t need the added pressure of giving the home crowd a win in what was long agreed to be the biggest game at Munn in many years. We looked very tight and fumbled with the puck all night.

With that being said, UM played far more soundly defensively than any opponent except maybe BC has shown us all year. We couldn’t get anything to the net whereas we normal just bombard opposing goalies. I’m sure many UM folks were just as surprised as we were. Hopefully we loosen up on the road tonight.

Wow. If that was not a perfect script of an ending, what are you looking for? Guys like Russell, Dorwart, Shoudy know how to handle The Moment.
State throttled Minnesota's power play, played hard end-to-end and earned this.
And, I think my voice is slowly recovering. Thanks Munn for being LOUD.
