Michigan State 2023-24. Tis the boldly numbered season.

Larson and Savage are tied for second in the nation in points.

In other words, that line has been fantastic so far this season.

Can't wait to see the nation's leader in penalty minutes playing for Canisius this weekend.

Griffin Loughran was whistled for 21 in the Friday night loss at Miami, and sat out Saturday due to a check from behind included in that total.

Canisius has three MSU transfers and I'm sure they'll be motivated to perform well. It kind of feels like a trap series to me. Really can't start slow like we did last Thursday against Air Force.

One of those transfers, Loughran, has been a certified goon so far. Dude might be out head-hunting this weekend.

I unfortunately had a dream last night indicating we lose tonight’s game 14-9. Really gotta get turnovers and goaltending figured out!

Bite your ... typing finger. Seriously though, maybe what MSU has going for them is chance at having some healthy power play time. Maybe another kind of test to see if the young side of MSU can keep their cool.
I wonder how Canisius' new goaltender compares to the one that got them to tNCAAs last season.

CHN says that Humphreys is down to Michigan and Mercyhurst. Although Chris Heisenberg hasn't put that strike-through on his name quite yet. He would be the top of the list as far as 2024-25 incoming talent goes.

I see unfortunately he has commited to Michigan this morning. Anyone know what caused the change? That is a tough battle to lose and one the new coaching staff has seemed to win the past couple years.

*And by unfortunately I mean it will be tough to see him suit up against MSU.. wish the kid the best with his career.

I'd like to think this MSU team is better than Miami (Oh) who swept Canisus last weekend so I'd think anything less than a sweep, especially at home, would be a severe disappointment. My picks are MSU 6-2 tonight and 5-3 Friday.

Ironically Canisius's long-time goalie from last season is starting for UMich this season (recall that we poached Augustine from the Wolvies relatively late in the process so they are relying upon three transfers). Canisius's current goalie is on his third college program so not sure he's as much of a threat.

And the Spartans hung some ugly numbers on him in the 1st period.

Whew that game was indescribably fun for the first 40 minutes. It had everything you could want - another hat trick, the usual 5 goals, lots of physical play before and after the whistle, and great goaltending by our guy to rev up the crowd. Sort of glad I had to leave before it got ugly.

I was so down on this program after the TA, Cole years, and was not willing to give this coach a break as I expected the same ole thing. However if your are going to post any negatives on this site, also be man enough to say you were wrong. I went to the home games and the rink was electric again, and the team looks great. hats off MSU to the new era

As for the eating of crow, let's just say I was as sure Cole was the answer as you may have been that AN was not. It happens. There is a certain buzz in that arena right now.

The B.C. series starting tonight is obviously where the rubber meets the road. The Eagles are absolutely stacked with talent - high NHL draftees, US-NDTP's galore and members of the IIHF U18 title team (including the golden goal guy Ryan Leonard). Let's hope MSU cleans up A LOT of what we've seen - especially in 3rd periods.

I guess I should mention that MSU had a pretty good weekend in Ohio.

Pretty good indeed. Couple of home series up next. This team sure can put the puck in the back of the net...just need to get better on the defensive end if they want to take the next step.

It’s remarkable how consistently we’ve been scoring with the exception of that one game out in Boston. Not sure how I feel about the PSU series. We both seem tailor made to each ale advantage of each other’s weaknesses.

Like us, PSU feasted on a relatively weak non-con schedule. They just tied Notre Dame twice (alternating a SOL with a SOW), who is poised for an uncharacteristic down season. Based on PSU being a home series and the foregoing points of reference, I think there is a strong possibility for a sweep. Unless we completely overlook PSU and Notre Dame, the real B1G challenges are going to be UMich, Minny and Wiscy.

Augustine's play will dictate our outcome this weekend. Based solely on how Gadowsky teams tend to play, I actually think this series is going to be his toughest test so far this season. He's going to see a ton of shots.

That said, given our offensive output so far, we can probably win an 8-7 game if we absolutely must.
