Michigan State 2023-24. Tis the boldly numbered season.

My stance is why not put the full name to it, anno domini and all. It could be a fun ride, or the party bus for the blissfully delusional. I'm feeling like the dealer with a pair of like-colored jacks, ready to declare trump yet afraid of being Euchred.

Most pure talent on a Michigan State team since, what? 2007-2008?

Lots of new, young faces. I just hope the team gels. I remain optimistic. 20 wins and an NCAA tournament appearance isn't out of reach, right?

Speaking of 2007, we have our first 2007 commitment! (Good lord, I'm old. We're all so old now. What happened?)

Yes, noticed that. Another team leader in offensive states makes MSU a destination instead of a lone alternative. 2007 - for some reason I remember that as a good year.

I'm just glad somebody started a new MSU Hockey thread. Was wondering how much longer everyone was going to ride the thread started in 2020! :D

In all seriousness, this is awesome to finally be excited about Spartan Hockey again for legitimate reasons and that tickets to home games have become a golden ticket once again like they were through most of The 80's and 90's!

This is easily the earliest I’ve been excited for hockey to start in a decade and I have been excited for months already. Can’t wait to see how all the new faces play and gel together. And I love hearing that hockey is a hot ticket again. I thought it would take years of success to build the fan base again but apparently everyone’s just been waiting for hockey to return to form.

I have been very critical with MSU for awhile now, goes back to the Anastos years. Me and my brother played at state back in the day and my son played at Ferris. Love the direction of this new coach, aggressive and understands how to fill a hole with a better situation. will take a step forward this year

This is arguably the biggest jump in talent level ever for the program. When that also includes the best goaltender prospect since Ryan Miller it's easy to see why there's so much antici...

...pation.

I think of how thrilled I was to have standing tickets as a married student when Mason was behind the bench. I can certainly back up your statement about Hot Ticket when considering what was left on day 1 in the July new season ticket spree by the time we were able to get through. Damn I wish this renaissance had happened a couple years sooner; we wouldn't had let our seats go in 2021-22. But just like '98-99, we're happy to be in the building.

Regardless of the outcome, I think it's safe to say the FB fans will most likely, aside from maybe a Saturday or two in September, console themselves with a walk westward across Chestnut. My, how that script has flipped.

Season must be getting close...

Captains have been announced: Nash Nienhuis will wear the "C" with Nicolas Muller, Matt Basgall, and Karsen Dorwart as the "A's".

If you're hungry and on campus, the team is giving away 1,000 free hot dogs at Munn tomorrow before the football game.

I stopped by and along with the hotdog, had a nice conversation with Coach Fast. Left me feeling even more optimistic about this year.

I'm sure this must have been mentioned elsewhere, but looking ahead a little to next season, here's how this season's US-NTDP U-18 roster shakes out, in terms of commitments:

Minnesota - 3
Boston U - 2
Michigan - 2
North Dakota - 2
Notre Dame - 2
Wisconsin - 2
Arizona State - 1
Boston College - 1
Denver - 1
Minnesota-Duluth - 1
Providence College - 1
(Uncommitted) - 1
