Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

Re: Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

Come on, man. You seem to be more rational than that other dummy who already posted. You mean to tell me that down late in the game, the SAME player who got in trouble and ejected last night, was just going for a clean hit and it was an ACCIDENT? You know that isn't true. Hope he enjoys his suspension.

And yeah, you're **** right it bothers me to see plays like that. These guys are still young men, so while it may be just a game, it's also their lives and their hockey careers. If the Gophers resorted to that BS, I'd be embarrassed. With that said, it was entertaining hockey, I'll take the points and hope no was injured.

No, I didn't say it was an accident. What I said that if the puck was played cleanly, it hit would have been clean, too. These guys don't think and react as fast as pros do, so he made a bad decision too late. Still, the guy WAS ducking, looking for the puck. When I was a kid, keeping your head up to avoid getting your clocked cleaned was impressed on us, and even then, I got clocked with my head down- it happens. Bad hit, but I would not call it dirty.

Was that player related to you? Why would you take it so personally? Having seen some North Dakota games, you have been embarassed in the past, then? I recognize that their lives and careers are on the line- but that's the nature of the sport. Total accidents end careers far far more often than intentional dirty play.

I'm not going to overreact, but here's hoping Rau gives Clowning a solid hip check when they meet again. :D ;)

Hip checks are spectacular. But not painful. He can legally lay him out in a less spectacular manner. just sayin.

I heard North Dakota wanted Downing pretty bad, but he knew how to keep his shoes on outside in the winter, so they passed.

Re: Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

Downing is going to be a good player and is already doing well but gosh ****ing ****it.

If Lohan didn't get hurt, he wouldn't see as much ice time.

Really fun weekend. Crappy turn out, but having the game go that fast is pretty entertaining.

I know a lot is going to be made of the cheaper shots, thinking that there will be a lot of "bad blood".. I still don't see that happening. Sinelli's cross check was pretty stupid, granted, and the announcers made a claim that the Minnesota bench was really upset by the hit by Downing. Yet at the end of the plays, and at the end of the game, there was no chippiness that the rest of the team was taking it personally. So either the Minnesota bench really didn't care, or they know that Michigan was getting frustrated that they were not scoring.

BTW, one the Downing hit, had the player cleanly played the puck, it would have been a good hit. Mike should have pulled up, sure. But I bet he thought that the player would have played it cleanly, and didn't think to check up until it was too late. he paid the price, and got tossed.

Anyway, Minnesota's shooting depth in addition to the D trying to score goals, well, that defined the game. Oh, well.
Crappy turnout? The place was full. There's always some empty seats with people up in the concourse, as well as people with Gold Club passes that hang out up there all game long.

And regardless of whether the Gopher player had the puck or not, a hit to the head with an elbow is never a good hit, and deserves the 5+game that he got both nights for basically the same hit.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the outcome for the Wolverines this weekend, not attendance.

Sweep sweep sweep the Fugly Helmets.

Fun hockey this weekend. Too bad Michigan has got some sore losers who like to lay dirty hits on the top players. Wasn't it Michigan who checked a Spartan player after a goal? Clean up your ****.

You won, you're still jerks...

Downing will be great in the NHL. Provided he has no issues with dropping the gloves, that is. He doesn't seem like a guy that would, though.

Re: Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

Would have been a perfect night if Michigan hadn't had the two North Dakotans on the squad. Nothing like a good elbow to the head and a cross check to the throat to spoil a perfect game.

Uh, yea, result? Sorry that the words are so confusing.

So if the player cleanly plays the puck, he would have been heading up ice with his head up. I propose that even if Mike put his legs into it, the position of the Minnesota player would have made the hit not to the head. It's not as if he jumped up high to put the elbow where it was, or even that he lifted his arm over his own head. Normal skating, it would not have been that kind of check. Instead the puck was misplayed, and his postion was a little more crouched, and could not see the check coming. Alas, that's where Downing should have just bumped him to the ice, and played the open puck instead of making a crushing check. Situational awareness.

Didn't see the play so I can't comment, but trust me, they all pretty much pass around the same old dilapidated pair of maroon and gold glasses between them. You're not going to get anywhere with this. They're pretty much intolerable when they win, but beat them at Yost and you'll find you have no problem developing a nice healthy hatred for all things goofer, just like the rest of the us decent and sensible folks.
