Miami @ Michigan 10/26-27

Re: Miami @ Michigan 10/26-27

Red announces Steve Racine will start in goal for Michigan Friday night. (@umichhockey). I assume he will be facing Ryan McKay.
He hinted on hisradio show that both goalies will play this weekend and that future non-conference series will depend on flexibility of the teams that Michigan is talking to. Safe to say Miami will be on the list. Now that Brad Bates has moved on, will this change, though?

Re: Miami @ Michigan 10/26-27

 Whoa! Now there's a comment that piques the curiosity. Care to elaborate?

If it's just personal level stuff, I'll certainly take no for an answer. But with the Wolverine/Spartan hockey rivalry so well documented... well, you get the idea.

I think it partially has to do with how certain fans at Miami treated Michigan fans / the band... throwing items at them etc. Chanting naughty stuff etc. is tolerable, but having stuff dumped on you, thrown at you and continue to be allowed to do it after bringing it to the attention of ushers is wrong. I don't think this is unique to any given fan base, it happens and it certainly has happened at Yost, but it would be a reason to feel biased towards the Hawks. Oh, and Enrico, too. :D

wT is a good ambassador and is pretty much accepted at most visitor rinks and has been treated well... except for a few choice locations. JMHO.

Dissapointing to hear, unfortunately there are *******s in every fan base. I've had enough poor experiences as a visiting fan across all sports that I usually don't say a single word beyond "Hi" to an oposing fan unless they engage me in a coversation, then I love chatting.

I've never personally seen anything on that level in Oxford, but it really doesn't suprise me. Without knowing the details I would guess it probably had more to do with a drunk OSU fan seeing a Michigan sweater than anything related to Miami hockey, there are quite a few tools who can't seperate the two.

I've been treated well everywhere by most fans. I think most of us recognize that every fanbase has some horrible fans, and some great fans.

I've had fun with Miami fans. Nothing terrible, typical friendly taunting that goes both ways. I find that enjoyable. And yes, I've had things thrown at me at Miami, but I've had things thrown at me in every rink in Ohio I've been to (always small things that I wouldn't even complain about, popcorn, skittles, candy wrappers). It certainly wasn't like going to the horseshoe and having batteries thrown at me, or being spit on. And please don't take these stories to think I'm one of those annoying fans that ticks everyone off. I'm on good behavior at away games. I'll cheer loudly and frequently for my team, but the worst thing I'll say or do is call a goalie a sieve.

Almost all of my dislike for Miami is Rico, and there's a story about events that took place in the old Goggin. I think it's classless for a coach to taunt/curse at fans, especially during a game. A lot of my dislike for Miami is that they are good competition. Typically we have close, hard-fought games. Some of my dislike has to do with students I interacted with that were dressed for the bar and told me hockey was just a place to be seen. In particular, I asked one popped collar green polo wearing student why he couldn't at least wear his school's color; he wanted to "look good for the ladies". Some of my dislike has to do with 'the dynasty'. And something about the color red and teams from Ohio gets to me. There's also that Miami's band seems to have adopted State's repertoire, and the fans have adopted many of the cheers my friends and I first brought to Oxford. Except that "see ya in 2 minutes, ***hole" penalty chant, which I still don't understand why one would cheer against their power play. But mostly it's Rico.

As for State, I know too many Spartans (and sadly am related to a few) to hate them.

Oh, thanks for reminding me of another reason I dislike Miami. tOSU fans. I love when I'm in Oxford and someone wearing Miami stuff taunts me about football 'cause they are a tOSU football fan.

Anyway, sorry for these rants. While I hate the coach, and the team in general, I don't hate the entire fanbase. Though I have enjoyed some schauendfreude thanks to Miami fans: "my school's about to win their first national championship ever!" lolz

Is it time for hockey yet?

I think it's safe to say everyone hates this type of student-"fan".

Re: Miami @ Michigan 10/26-27

And, we were doing so well just talking hockey. Good luck this weekend.

Hey, at least we are getting all the main talking points about "the bros" and the band out of the way beforehand. Now if we win a game we'll just have to read about the MAC level education and how we are all hillbillies (seems contradictory to "the bro" but who am I to argue)

(More aimed at Mgoblog than USCHO)

Re: Miami @ Michigan 10/26-27

I like these games. A lot more intensity and anticipation. but Michigan football fans are the worst. Im looking at you, Ricoforpres.

Re: Miami @ Michigan 10/26-27

First things first- anyone see what happened to McKay? He left early, and it must have been while he was making a save. He appeared to be still "limping" after he came back.... hope he his ok.

Nice to see Dick still have his team so diciplined. So that they don't take bad penalties. When they are behind. Late in the game. By the team leaders..... Nice.

Anyway, so early in the season, that seemed to be mostly two teams still trying to figure each other out. As posted by quite a few, it's a shame these games are so early in the season- while they are close, both teams played pretty sloppy at times. Both of Miami's goals were plays off Racine behind the net. Those are kind of goals that should not really even be opportunities.

I wonder which goalies we see in each net tomorrow....

Re: Miami @ Michigan 10/26-27

Forgot the funniest part of the game- when a Miami forward was signaling for the puck, and broke his stick just at the puck was being passed to him. Gotta be on not-so-top-plays.

Re: Miami @ Michigan 10/26-27

Rutledge in net tonight. Sloppy game, yes, but still entertaining. Treais scored twice, had glorious chances for his third, and also coughed up the puck in the corner which led to Miami's 2nd goal. Racine was solid in net, almost acrobatic. Nice to see the CCHA gongshow is full display for the tv audience. Glad that Enrico gets what he wants, although the first goal should have been reviewed, anyway. Way to go Aaron and Pochmara. Teams were a little chippy- but Michigan isn't backing down. Miami got to most of the loose pucks all night, speedy and talented. McKenzie is still a hack, too. Should be a good one tonight.

Re: Miami @ Michigan 10/26-27

McKenzie is still a hack, too.

He was the one who broke his stick, waving for the puck. It might have cracked seconds earlier when he tried to push it through Trouba's head, though. That guy is, at best, a hack. Other words come to mind that would fit better.

Re: Miami @ Michigan 10/26-27

Curtis McKenzie with the GWG, convenient.

Bogus interference penalty led to the GWG. But give the hack credit, he finished. Miami earned the split no doubt. Second time this season that Michigan has melted down with Rutledge in net. This time it wasn't his fault. Disappointing to come out so flat in the third period after owning the second period.

Wasn't his fault, but he should have gotten at least a piece of the puck on a couple of those goals. Certainly didn't do himself any favors in getting play time.

This time, Miami got Michigan into a dumping out of the zone play, which pretty much took 10 min and turned them into 2 decisive goals. Although, historically, that happens on parents night.

C'mon E, I saw what you saw. Trouba got undressed by Barber on the first goal and beat Rutledge. In the third period, Miami won a faceoff and everyone stood there except the Miami forward who got off a good shot. Sure, elite goalies may have gotten that one. The third goal was inexcusable, on a delayed call, the forward (Mullin) beat his man, cut across the crease with Bennett and Chiasson standing there like pylons, and made a good move backhand to score. He should have been planted by one of the defensemen who were obviously playing the pass and not the man. The McKenzie breakaway shorthanded was just the defense asleep at the wheel. How can you allow a stretch pass at that stage of the game? Every defenseman last night could be fingered, but Trouba was absolutely someplace else. Terrible game. I am not pinning Rutledge for this game, no way. Most feeble effort defensing a lead in the third period a Michigan team could offer. Now I have witnessed it twice this season, AT HOME. Just a lack of intensity and leadership IMO.

I was also perplexed to see Hyman scratched again for Milne. I guess I am not seeing what the coaches are. He had a solid game against Miami friday and that line he was on with Selman and Copp was really effective. The other scratches (Rohrkemper, Sinelli, Dwyer, Merrill) I can see. Milne hasn't shown me much in his three games.
