Merrimack College: 2026 Hockey East Champions

Well my alma mater has certainly proved to be "Thread Worthy", even if I'm the only one who might post here (also, I REALLY LOVE the title). Provides me a place to give a shout out to the HE posters who have extended congratulations on this completely unexpected accomplishment!
Jack Hanson at UMass was terrifically gracious in defeat. Go Austin Prep!
BC' s Nick Papagiorgio and Carmine Scarapaglia (why do I all of a sudden want to have dinner in the North End?) gave great props for what Mack was able to achieve. sterlippo1 chimed in too (and IIRC, you have a certain soft spot for my Warriors).
Thank you to UMaine posters amkirby10, Walrus, acs64 and Drew S. All of them true blue Black Bear fans!
BU's scarlet has been a long time presence on these boards, always posting insightful observations on the state of Terrier Nation.
NU (sorry you guys are now homeless) posters RossiRules and Split-N gave a tip o' the helmet.
A special acknowledgement to the UNH fan base. They can best empathize with the travails of being a (mostly) 3rd tier team in Hockey East. HockeyRef, FlagUp17, and JB seemed almost as excited as I was. Chuck Murray (by the way, I was a HUGE ELP fan back in the day), GrumpyCat, Darius and others extended warm congratulations. Even Potluck had some kind words (though with the caveat that this was a "once in 30 years event"). Actually, it is once in 37 Years since Merrimack joined HE in 1989. But at least it is ONCE!!

If I haven't named you specifically, thank you.

I've been a Merrimack fan since I was there in the late '70's . I was there when they beat Union to win the ECAC DII title in '77, and saw them win the inaugural DII National Title in 1978. Those were great, but winning the Hockey East Championship is a whole 'nother level!

Here's hoping we can make Hockey East proud in the tournament.

OMG thanks for the shout out and my sincere congratulations!!! I am so happy for you and for Merrimack and wish you well this weekend. I know it’s a long shot (not the game - the trip itself) but I hope you are thinking about making the trip. Definitely buy all the swag and wear it with pride next season. And whatever event you might go to at TD Garden the next 12 months, take pics of the banner - it’s up ALL YEAR!!!

I did want to ask you - and please know I’m not trying to be a jerk about this - I saw this tweet from the reporter of the student newspaper linking to his story: https://merrimacknewspaper.com/no-8-merrimack-beats-no-3-uconn-wins-first-ever-hockey-east-title/

I’m hoping he was being sarcastic when he said: The No. 4 Merrimack Warriors will head to the Sioux Falls, S.D. Regional to take on the No. 2 North Dakota State Bisons Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Sigh. Let's just say that some of these youngsters don't do their research! Not only do they reference the wrong school, the plural of Bison is BISON! Even when I read some of the game write-ups, it makes me cringe (and I know my English teacher is rolling over in his grave).
I'm headed to the Garden tomorrow night for the Bruins-Leafs game. I'll make sure to take a picture!!

Were you at the 88’ NCAA comeback against Northeastern? That was unbelievable.

I was actually working in Switzerland for a couple of weeks when that happened. Just found an awesome video from a Mike Lynch newscast of that incredible 7 goal comeback! Great interview with Jim Vesey. Seeing them in Cooperalls made me smile!

Jesus H Tapdancing Christ can the local sports media buy a map and realize that just because the name of the city is SIOUX Falls and Merrimack is playing NORTH Dakota the game is actually in SOUTH Dakota??? WBZ just did a segment on the send off for Merrimack and said they were heading to North Dakota. No Steve Burton, they’re not. Why don’t you go to North Dakota and try and find the game and report on it??

Stay on your game that got you here. You will be up against a greater than 95% hostile crowd but if you play to keep it tight and low scoring that can take the crowd out of it a lot. Good luck and hoping you join the NC club.

So I guess it's not just the Merrimack student newspaper that can't get it right!
Scarlet, went to the Bruins game last night, up in the balcony, with a perfect view of the Hockey East Championship banner. What a beautiful sight!

The Merrimack student newspaper got the location correct. They got the opponent incorrect.
